March 2025
Message from Mrs. Yost & Mrs. Feola
As we bid farewell to winter’s chill, we warmly welcome the promise of spring and the many opportunities it brings for growth, learning, and joy. March is here, and with it comes an exciting time for our school community!
First, a huge congratulations to our amazing Hawks who dazzled us in the talent show! Our students were truly stars of tomorrow—so brave and talented! A special shoutout to our 5th graders for their incredible and unique Hamilton parody that brought the show to a spectacular close. We are so proud of all our performers! We could not have done it without our wonderfully, hardworking parent volunteers!
March also marks the kickoff of our Hawks Read Together program! The gym was full of excitement this morning as we revealed our whole-school read: Book Uncle and Me. A huge thank you to our PTA, Mrs. Han, and our families for sponsoring this special tradition. Each student received a family book today. See below to a link for Mrs. Hans padlet - overview, clues, reading schedule, recording of chapters, trivia questions, and calendar. We look forward to embarking on this shared reading adventure together!
March is also Women’s History Month, a time to recognize and honor the incredible contributions of women throughout history. From pioneers in science and literature to leaders in social justice and education, women have played a vital role in shaping the world we live in today. Throughout the month, we encourage students to learn about inspiring women whose courage, determination, and achievements continue to impact our society.
In addition to our literary journey, March is Irish American Heritage Month! This is a wonderful time to celebrate the rich contributions of Irish Americans to our history, culture, and society. From traditional music to captivating folklore, we encourage everyone to join in learning and appreciating this vibrant heritage.
Ramadan is a holy month observed by Muslims around the world, including many families in our school community. During this time, many Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset, focusing on kindness, gratitude, and giving to others. It’s a time for reflection, prayer, and spending time with loved ones. If you know a friend celebrating Ramadan, a simple "Ramadan Mubarak!" (Happy Ramadan) is a great way to show support! 🌙✨
Finally, a heartfelt thank you to our generous families for supporting Rare Disease Day! Through our t-shirt sales, we raised $189 for this important cause. Your kindness and generosity continue to make a meaningful impact.
Together, let's make March a memorable chapter in the story of Mill Hill School. Thank you for your continued support!
In partnership,
Mrs. Yost & Mrs. Feola

Hawks Reads Together - Book Reveal
From the LLC :
This month our Mill Hill community will once again come together for its all-school reading program called Hawks Read Together! Every family will receive a copy of this year’s selected title – Book Uncle and Me by Uma Krishnaswami – along with a unique bookmark. We will be reading the book in our classes over the month of March, and we ask that you take the time to reread the assigned chapters at home, according to the schedule on the bookmark.
Book Uncle and Me centers around a young girl named Yasmin, her good friend, known as “Book Uncle” who has set up a free lending library on the street corner, and how, when the mayor tried to shut down Book Uncle’s stand, a community, led by kids, were able to make a difference. This book was chosen because of its broad appeal to a wide range of ages, its themes of friendship, trust, and love of reading, and the spirit of community activism it inspires.
Hawks Read Together is an invaluable program in that children at all grade levels will all be listening to and reading the same book. We have selected a title that can be followed, understood, and enjoyed by younger students but that will still captivate and stimulate older children. Reading professionals recommend reading material aloud beyond a child’s reading level – and to continue reading chapter books with older children, even when they can read by themselves. With the Hawks Read Together program, we also aim to build an entire community of readers at our school. EVERYONE at Mill Hill – students, parents, teachers, and staff – will be participating!
Over the next month, there will also be other fun activities to support this program, including opportunities to listen to pre-recorded readings of chapters by Mill Hill staff, and daily trivia questions with the chance to win a gift card for correct responses. Access to the recordings, reading schedule and other information about this year’s program are included on a Padlet that can be found here: https://fairfields.padlet.org/MrsHan/hawks-read-together-2024-2025-ngtawvfx10unatji. We will end our program this year with a STEAM/LITERACY night celebrating the themes of the book on April 3rd. Please mark it in your calendars and stay tuned for more information.
Good luck and thank you for your support in this wonderful endeavor. “When a whole school reads a book, there’s a lot to talk about.”
Sincerely,
Amy Yost Gina Han
