Language Arts
Guided reading is continuing to happen daily. As always please check your child's little book bag nightly and have them practice their little books and sight words to build fluency. The friends who are ready for new sight words will be getting another set on their word ring. Be sure to practice reading and writing the words on the ring. It is very important that your child returns their little book bags with all the materials to school each day as we use them during our groups too.
In comprehension, we are working on identifying story elements; characters, setting, problem and solution in literary text. Enjoy reading a story at home, discuss and draw the story elements with your child. We will also be starting a new drama, stay tuned for more details to follow!
Shapes in the Environment!
Go on a Shape Hunt!
What shapes do you see?
Math
This week we are continuing to work on Unit 4 which involves describing and comparing measurable attributes, identifying two dimensional shapes by name and recognizing them in the environment. Have some fun at home and go on a shape hunt, see what shapes you can find! We will begin Unit 5 next week, this unit focuses on counting, recognizing, and representing quantities 0-20.
Social Studies/Science
Our friends had so much fun investigating and comparing the effects of different strengths and or different directions of pushes and pulls on the motion of an object through the use of ramps and different materials to create friction.
This week we have begun creating our plan for designing our own car. We will use materials to carry out our plan to build our cars. We will focus on what causes the push on our cars, tell how a light push moves our cars, tell how a strong push moves our cars, compare the different strengths of pushes on cars and compare the distances they travel depending on a soft or hard push.
Reminders
Change of clothes- To minimize lost instructional time in case of accidents and other unexpected events, please keep a seasonally appropriate change of clothes in your child's backpack.
Please be sure to send your child to school with a coat and any other items to keep them warm as needed for recess! We will continue to go outside for recess, weather permitting.
If your child has a change of transportation at dismissal time, please email springridge.es@fcps.org or call the front office by 3:15 pm.
