AMLE SOUND OFF COMPETITION
What? Open to ages 10-15, students around the world are invited to sound off by creating submissions that share their experience as middle schoolers in 2024.
How? Because we all have different talents, interests, and ways of expressing ourselves, students can submit in the format that most appeals to them! This might include artwork, an essay or poem, a video or song, or .... something else they have dreamed up!
Why? AMLE will select submissions to feature on our website and at AMLE24: The 51st Annual Conference for Middle Level Education this November to shine a light on today’s middle school student experience. Plus, there are some cool prizes in store for participants!
When? Submissions are due by April 5, 2024.

Preparing Our Children For Careers
Educating tomorrow's workforce today is a large part of what we do, as the Tuscaloosa City Schools. Preparing our students for life and career success. Did you know much of our workforce development courses are paid through local funding of our schools? Due to rising costs of inflation, the district needs to increase revenue to continue providing the current level of programs and services, while also expanding programs to become the premier school system our community deserves. Because our students are depending on us, and their future employers are, too.
In October, the Tuscaloosa City School board unanimously voted to offer a tax referendum in 2024 to allow voters to decide whether to increase property taxes to support TCS. According to the resolution, if city voters approve a tax referendum in fall 2024, the city's property tax millage rate could increase by up to 11.5 mills. If approved, the millage increase would generate around $17.25 million a year starting in 2025 for the Tuscaloosa City Schools. The last time local tax rates were increased to support the Tuscaloosa City Schools was in 1986.

Pathways to Proficiency and ACAP Summative State Testing
We are well underway into the spring semester and testing season is near. Our students will take the Pathways to Proficiency Assessment between February 19th and March 1st. Students will only be tested two of those days. We will send those dates soon. This assessment will give us a snapshot into how students may perform on the spring ACAP assessment. We need students to show us what they really know! We will use the data to gauge our teaching and learning as we head into April for the spring state assessment.
Our students will take the ACAP Summative State Assessment during the window of April 8th-17th. We need students present each day. A parent guide is below.
Donation Drive: A Passion Project
A message from one of our students.....
"Hey Magnet! It is really important to support foster kids and provide them with hygienic products, and toys. Donating can make a big difference in their lives. It helps them feel clean, confident, and cared for. So let's spread the word and encourage people to donate! Together, we can make a positive impact on their well-being."
