A Light in the Cloud
They were terrified as they entered
the cloud. Luke 9:34
Peter, James, and John climbed a mountain to pray with Jesus. While they were praying, Jesus was transformed. His face changed, his clothes turned dazzling white, and then Moses and Elijah showed up and started speaking with him. What a vision to behold: glory beyond this realm.
As I read about this moment and imagine my own reaction, I think I would be speechless, wondering what was happening. But the disciples seemed to feel comfortable. Peter even tried to start a building plan to preserve this experience.
This part of the story suggests that as rare as it is to behold a moment of glory, or the healing of one who is thought to be gravely ill, or the dramatic answer to a prayer, it doesn’t really scare us. Frankly, we sometimes wait a long time for God to do something glorious with our lives.
Then, a second part of the mountaintop experience unfolds. While Peter was making his building plans, a cloud overshadowed the disciples. At that moment, they became terrified. This part of the story teaches we are more afraid of entering God’s mysterious cloud than we are of beholding his glory. We, too, enter the cloud when we are unsure of God’s will or when the answer to a perfectly good request is, “No.”
Glorious moments in our lives are opportunities to see that God is faithful. Cloudy moments in our lives are opportunities to be faithful ourselves.
So many moments in life can be described as thoroughly cloudy from a spiritual perspective. When those times overtake us, when we have no idea what God could be doing, the story of this lesson is to continue to look and listen for Jesus. Though the clouds disorient our vision, Jesus can be found in the midst of every difficult time. And he is the only plan we need to behold God’s glory.
Join us for worship this Sunday at 10:30 am. Pastor Rich will bring us the message, Glow in the Dark.

Come Check out the Remodeled Nursey & Consider Volunteering
We are happy to announce that our nursery was recently remodeled. Come check it out down in Room 117.
We are also pleased to announce that there is a need to make the Nursery available on Sundays. Families with infants or toddlers have recently attended our services. While we welcome children in our Sanctuary, the parents stepped out into the Lakeview with their little ones.
It would be a blessing to these families if we could provide a place for their baby or toddler to go while the parents attend the worship service. Please consider volunteering in the Nursery one Sunday a month from about 10:00 am -12:00 pm. The service can be live streamed in the Nursery as well.
Contact Leida in the Church office or Mike Starynchak if you can help!
Why Per Capita?
Each year, Presbyterians across the nation make the commitment to support our shared leadership through Per Capita. We are a priesthood of all believers. As a part of this call, we share in the responsibility of supporting the church and her regional and national leaders.
We are a connectional church; no worshipping community in our denomination is isolated. The entirety of the church is called to work with one another in making ministry possible throughout our region, state, and nation. Our regional Presbyteries, Synods, and national denominational offices work alongside one another to support, guide, and collaborate thanks to Per Capita funding.
All Per Capita donations to OLCCP ($37.09 per member) are passed through to the higher judicatories (Presbytery of Detroit, Synod of the Covenant, General Assembly) for their administrative support. Thank you for your support.
