Ohio’s State Tests tell us how well our students are growing in the knowledge and skills outlined in Ohio’s Learning Standards. These tests help guide and strengthen future teaching so we can be sure that we are preparing our students for long-term success in school, college, careers and life. Test results also allow citizens to know how their local schools are performing compared to others around the state.
We appreciate your help in making this a positive and successful experience for your student. A few suggestions to help your student:
1. Make sure your student gets a good night of sleep prior to each test date.
2. Make sure your student has a healthy breakfast at home and/or takes advantage of the school's free breakfast.
3. Make sure your student arrives at school on time. We test in the morning on these dates. If a student arrives late, they will not be allowed to enter the classroom once testing has begun and will end up utilizing a make-up date to complete the test.
4. It is very important to minimize student appointments and/or your student being absent on these dates. If a student is absent or has an appointment during these dates, they will end up utilizing a make-up date to complete the test.
5. Remind your student to bring their earbuds or headphones to school on all testing days. Smart watches and cell phones will be stored in lockers if they are brought to school on testing days.
6. Gently encourage your students to do their best. While we all want our students to do their best, we also want the students to not feel excess stress or anxiety.
If you have additional questions, please reference the state’s testing website for more information: https://education.ohio.gov/Topics/Testing
Important Information for 6th Grade Parents
Ohio House Bill 123
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As you may know, Ohio House Bill 123 requires schools to provide evidence-based instruction to students in the areas of social isolation, violence prevention and suicide prevention. On April 24 and 25th, students in grade six will be receiving instruction from their teachers addressing these topics. The curriculums we will use are called, Start with Hello and Erika’s Lighthouse. Our school counselors and school psychologist have carefully reviewed the curriculum materials and have put together the lessons for the students that take into consideration their developmental needs.
The Start with Hello program helps students recognize loneliness and social isolation with their peers and provides strategies students can use to reach out and help others. It is our hope that this program will help EHG students develop empathy in an inclusive community.
The Erika’s Lighthouse program helps students recognize the warning signs and threats of someone who may be at-risk of hurting themselves or others. The lessons emphasize the importance of saying something to a trusted adult to get help.
We understand that every family has unique preferences when it comes to their child’s educational experience. If you wish to opt your child out of the lessons, please know that we respect your decision. To do so, kindly send an email to Ann Marie Reinke, Interim Principal. reinkea@sycamoreschools.org

Rising 6th Grade Students
Advanced Art Information & Application Process
Advanced Art is a program for visual arts students who demonstrate an extraordinary interest in the development of their skills and creativity. This is an additional art class that meets once a week during the specials bell. In contrast to the general art class, students in Advanced Art are challenged beyond the standard curriculum with exposure to more mediums in a smaller group setting. Advanced Art can be taken in conjunction with a music choice if the child’s individual schedule allows, but will replace Multimedia Explorations.
Because of tremendous interest in the course, and limited space available, we are required to have an audition process. Current 5th-grade Advanced Art students must reapply for 6th-grade placement. Please have your child fill out Advanced Art Application Form and supply the accompanying drawing to be considered for the class.

The PTO is excited to bring back the Greene Walking Program this spring. The program is a great opportunity for students to get exercise, burn off energy during recess, and even earn great prizes at the same time. The program will be available every Tuesday and Thursday during recess, starting the week after Spring Break.
There is no obligation to walk each week, but parent volunteers will keep track of the laps students walk each time and at the end of the program, the top 10 walkers with the greatest number of laps walked will receive a gift card to Dairy Queen.
Parents, if you would like to volunteer during the Greene School Walking Program on Tuesdays and Thursdays during recess, please sign up below.
