Week of October 28, 2024
Attention Seniors
SHS will continue with our Halloween tradition. Seniors only can dress in costume for Halloween. Costumes must be school appropriate, faces cannot be covered, and nothing that resembles a weapon is allowed.
End of Quarter One Fast Approaching 10/31
It is hard to believe however, the end of the first quarter is October 31st! Please check Power School and be sure to communicate with teachers! Try your best!
Parent Conferences Nov. 14th
Parent/teacher conferences will be held at SHS on November 14th from 6:00pm-8:00pm. Conferences will last 8 minutes with 3 minutes allotted for passing between conferences. Please email Mrs. Erickson erin.erickson@scituateschoolsri.net with the names of the teachers you would like to meet with. There are limited time slots available, so if you would like to meet with more than one teacher, please list in order of priority. Mrs. Erickson will do her best to accommodate all schedule requests. Once scheduled, Parents will receive a calendar invitation with time and room number for each conference. If you do not receive a calendar invitation for a teacher you requested to meet with, that means the teacher's schedule is full.

John Marion, the Executive Director of Common Cause RI, came in to talk to Ms. Grundt’s AP US Government and Politics class on October 24. He provided an excellent background on RI voter laws. The students are more than prepped for working at the polls in Scituate on Election Day!

Seniors!!
Attention Seniors and Parents/Guardians:
A reminder to start preparing for your next steps. Here's what you need to do:
FSA ID – If you haven’t already, make sure you create your FSA ID now. You’ll need this ID to complete your FAFSA and access federal student aid. Students and their contributors will need to complete the FSA ID. Learn more about contributors here.
FAFSA – The FAFSA opens on December 1, but don’t wait until the last minute! Get your FSA ID set up and gather the necessary documents so you're ready to apply as soon as it opens.
Don’t miss this important step for financial aid! Without an FSA ID, you won’t be able to complete your FAFSA, and without the FAFSA, you won’t be eligible for any federal grants or loans. You never know what you might qualify for! Having choices is key! For any questions, reach out to your school counselor or visit the College Planning Center for assistance.

BRAG SHEETS are due!
Guidance counselors are still waiting for brag sheets. They need these before they can write recommendation letters. Students should be mindful of their deadlines and submit their brag sheet well in advance.
Applying to Non Common App Schools?
Any students applying to the California Schools or International Schools should inform their cousenlor right away. These are non common application schools so the applications will have different requirements and deadlines that need planning for.
SRAR/SSAR
Some schools, most recently URI, have added a self-reporting component to their admissions process. After the application is received by the institution, the student will be prompted to input the entirety of their academic record. The most efficient way to complete this task is to obtain a copy of your high school transcript to use as a reference. Mrs. Erickson or your guidance counselor can provide you with a copy of your transcript, should you need it.

Updated Resources for Distribution
The updated English and Spanish versions of the ACN Registration Guide and ACN Signup flyers have not yet been posted on RIDE’s ACN website, but we wanted to ensure that you had them. They’re attached to this email - please distribute widely to students and families.
Important Dates and Deadlines
- Spring 2025 semester: January 13 – May 16 with varied dates
- Pre-lottery registration runs through December 6, 2024.
- School approval deadline is December 9 at 12pm. Students with pending approvals after this deadline has passed will not be included in the course lotteries.
- Spring 2025 course lotteries run on December 10. Students are notified by email same day with a seat offer or waitlist number for each course they preregistered for.
- Seat offer deadline: Students have until January 2 at 11:59pm to accept or decline their seat offers before they expire. A course with an expired seat offer will not be available to them in their EnrollRI dashboards if they try to re-register post-lottery.
- Open enrollment runs from January 3 through the last day of the add drop period for each course. Courses with seat availability will be filled on a first come first serve basis as students register and move up the waitlist. Prompt approvals will help ensure a student secures a seat in a preregistered course during open enrollment.
ACN Team School Visits
The ACN team is available to do school visits to share ACN info and help students preregister for Spring 2025 courses. Please let us know if you’d like us to visit and we’ll be happy to schedule a time that works best for you and your students.
Contact Us!
As always, please reach out to the ACN team with questions or requests for support. Emailing the following addresses will ensure a prompt response as all team members read and respond to these inboxes:
- Email acn@ride.ri.gov with general ACN questions
- Email helpenrollri@ride.ri.gov with account and login issues.
Please Consider Donating

Scituate Alumni Association Tip of the Week
Most people in high school don't have their life figured out and that is 100% okay. Give yourself time to go over what you want to achieve whether it be college, just travelling the world experiencing different cultures, or even doing what you love. Life has no limitations. You can do anything as long as you put your mind to it. Don't try to fit in societal norms and be yourself always. There's nobody else like you. You are unique. Take chances. Listen intently. Laugh often. Respect others. Make memories. Do things. And best of all have fun. ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Kirstin Dion-former student of the Class of 2013
