Head Cheetahs Message
Families,
What a wonderful week! It was full of seasonal activities, including: wonderful read-alouds, pumpkin investigations, pumpkin seed math, and monster multiplication.
Don’t forget…. It’s time to “fall back”. Turn back your clocks an hour on Sunday morning! Also, Tuesday is Election Day. Schools will be closed for students as teachers engage in a professional learning day.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Joey & Andrea
Cheetahs In Action
Orange and Black Day
Thursday students and staff showed their spirit by wearing orange and black.
Pumpkin Investigations
Students completed predictions about the number of seeds they would find in their pumpkins. Then they showed teamwork by counting the seeds and mapping them out on a ten frame. Students also measured the height and weight of their pumpkins.
Bus Safety Poster Contest Winners
Congratulations to these 5 students for having their Bus Safety Posters chosen as this year's contest winners. Their posters are beautiful representations of Bus Safety.
Socktober Service Project
Thank you to everyone who donated. The socks will be delivered to the East Hampton Food Bank for neighbors in need!
Memorial Models
Memorial Models are chosen weekly by their teacher. These students have excelled all week in taking care of themselves, others, and things. The recipients will dine at a VIP table during lunch every Friday!

Hi Cheetah families!
It has been a busy fall in the Memorial School library! Students have been practicing their library skills each week and are becoming more independent library users.
We have a book fair coming up at the end of November, more information to follow.
See below for grade level classroom expectations.
PreK students will enjoy a variety of read-alouds and songs in the month of November with the themes of friendship and gratitude. We have been having fun with a new round of rhymes, including a student favorite, “popcorn”.- Mrs. Flannery
Kindergarten is working on discussing the relationship between illustrations and text. We have read “Go Away Big Green Monster '' to aid in the conversation. We have also done lots of work around making predictions and inferences, as we read several squirrel themed titles.-Mrs. Flannery
First grade has been introduced to our school database Pebblego and used it to learn some interesting facts about bats, in addition to our reading around our October theme “teamwork”. We also have spent time thinking about strategies that can help us make a “just right choice” during book check out.- Mrs. Flannery
Second grade is in the middle of our unit on digital citizenship. We are learning about the types of information that are safe to put online versus what is unsafe. We have learned that we should never share our username/passwords, birthday, school, or address online. We will be using Google’s game, Interland, and a video called the Cyber 5. We are also finishing our class book, Aven Green: Sleuthing Machine, which is our first Nutmeg nominee.- Mrs. Flannery
Third graders have had an exciting month in the library! September 15 - October 15 marked Hispanic Heritage Month in the US. We took time to learn how and why this month is celebrated around the country. This year, Digital Citizenship Week was celebrated October 14 - 18. Third graders created digital superheroes to help kids who encounter cyberbullying and other problems that can occur online. This week, third graders began writing If/Then stories using Google Slides. Of course, we also paused to enjoy books that reflect the beautiful changes we are lucky to see around us during autumn in Connecticut. I enjoyed hearing kids’ stories of jumping into piles of leaves, picking out costumes, visiting Pumpkin Town, and other seasonal traditions. Keep on reading!- Ms. Sawyer

Looking for ways to support your mathematician at home? Look no further! Bridges in Mathematics offers various digital tools directly aligned to our curriculum which can support learning outside of the school day.
Math At Home is a free website filled with fun daily math activities, family activities, and online games. Activities are organized by grade and mathematical content. For each activity, there is an option to have the equation read aloud to your child as well as a printable option if you’d prefer.
The Math Learning Center offers free apps that are based on the visual models used in Bridges in Mathematics. All apps can be used on a computer or an iOS device. You can click ‘learn more’ about the app before your mathematician engages with it. This explains what the model is and allows you to watch a tutorial of how to use the app. There are also activities that directly align to the visual models that can be used for additional practice. The activities can be sorted by grade, topic and app.
Notes From The Nurse
Medications
Every medication that is brought into school requires a “Medication Authorization” form to be signed by the student’s doctor and parent/guardian and the medication in original packaging with prescription label is to be brought in by a parent/guardian, not in the child’s backpack. No child may carry their own medications at the Elementary level. Please use a large ziplock bag for the medication plus the medication order, and label the bag with your child’s name before dropping off. Any controlled medications will need to be counted and signed off with the RN and parent so please allow for a few extra minutes at drop off.
Please note: COUGH DROPS count as medications and are not allowed in school. All over-the-counter medications also need a medication order from your provider.
Food
We have several students with severe food allergies, therefore we highly recommend non food items to share for birthday celebrations. We ask for at least 48 hours advance notice. A great resource for allergy free snacks is the Safe Snack guide at https://snacksafely.com/safe-snack-guide/. We appreciate your assistance in keeping our school safe.
Health Concerns
If your child has a new health concern which you would like to speak to the nurse about e-mail kwilliams@easthamptonct.org and mlemire@easthamptonct.org at any time.
Please let us know if your child is diagnosed with any illness or injury (such as strep, flu, pink eye, fracture/broken bone, lice, etc.) as the nurse office tracks illnesses and sends notification letters home if there are 2 or more cases in a specific classroom.
If you have any specific concerns that arise during the school year (such as stitches, concussions, broken bones/fractures, etc) it is best that you send in a doctor’s note with dates, guidelines and restrictions, so we can all be on the same page and keep your child safe.
Respectfully,
Katie Williams, RN
and Ms. Michelle Lemire

Safe School Climate
The East Hampton Board of Education and the school community as a whole promote a secure and productive school climate, conducive to teaching and learning that is free from threat, harassment, and any type of bullying behavior. Therefore it shall be the policy of the Board that bullying and/or teen dating violence committed against a student by another student is prohibited. The Board believes that a school environment in which students feel safe, supported, engaged and helpfully challenged is optimal for learning and healthy development. The Board seeks an environment in which students and adults feel socially, emotionally, intellectually and physically safe; an environment that is free of harassment, intimidation, teen dating violence and bullying. Our website provides links to various policies and reporting forms including our Safe School Climate Plan. Hard copies are also available in our main office. If at any point you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to building administration for further assistance.
Attendance Matters
Please note
When considering the number of absences your student has accrued, keep in mind that a student must be present for 195 minutes in order for the day to count! When bringing your student in late, or signing them out early if they have not been in school for a 195 minutes the day will be recorded as an absence.
