SEL Second Step Program
Dear Parents,
In this weekโs Second Step lesson, your child will learn how to begin to solve an interpersonal problem using strategies. Some strategies are finding a way to feel calm, discussing the problem respectfully, and deciding whether an adultโs help is needed. They will identify behaviors that can cause conflicts to escalate to keep them from becoming more serious. Your child will practice using emotion-management strategies, such as slow breathing, walking away, reframing the situation, and practicing positive self-talk, which can help prevent a conflict from escalating.
Parents, try this at home. Share the strategies you use to help yourself feel calm during escalating conflicts. Ask them to tell you any additional strategies they find helpful beyond the ones covered in the lesson.
