Davis Families,

Quarter 2 has started, and there are some important updates we want you to be aware of. First, we are excited to transition to Schoology to replace Google Classroom. There are a number of advantages, but the most important one is a parent log in with the ability to monitor your child's grades. More info is posted below.

The remote learning environment is not ideal, and we are working to find as many ways we can to keep kids on track. For this reason, students who failed classes first quarter are scheduled for afternoon Study Hall to complete their missing first quarter assignments. Information is below.

Last week we held Student-Parent-Advisor conferences. The Davis staff values these conferences because, not only does it allow us to set goals with our students and families, but it helps us reinforce our relationship with you. Davis advisors support the social/emotional well-being of their Crews. If you were unable to attend conferences last week, reach out to the school and/or your child's advisor to schedule a time to review the important materials that were covered.

If your child is in need of in-person support, see the PHASTAR Safe Space information below. Depending on where you live, there still may be CMSD-provided transportation available.

If you have not already done so, please complete the Say Yes Parent/Guardian Survey. Davis is a Say Yes school, so we have additional staff and support services to help ensure students graduate and receive assistance with their college application process.

You must have your child's student ID number and birthdate to take the survey. Student ID numbers can be found on a student report card, or please see the previous email from us with the ID #.

Quarter 1 report cards were mailed the past Friday, November 20th. Electronic copies were also emailed to parents and students.

MANDATORY M/F STUDY HALL began this Friday for all students who received at least one Incomplete on their report card. Study Hall will be Mondays and Fridays from 1-2:40PM until your student completes all missing work from 1st Quarter, including Monday, November 23rd. My name is Sincere Henderson. I like to play basketball a lot, work out, read, and watch basketball games and highlights. I'm very optimistic about things and committed to making my life and those around me better. My favorite subjects are math and P.E. After I leave Davis, my plan is go to college and to become a very sensational, notable, and respected alumni from the Davis Aerospace & Maritime Program...continually improving my life and paving the way for the underclassmen and future redtails to be GREATER.

Senior Parents: Almost half of CMSD seniors last year did not submit their FAFSA? That means that almost over $7 million went unclaimed, along with tens of thousands of dollars in scholarships. The FAFSA is open for seniors and their parents to fill out. It's super important that we get that done! Both the student and the parent will need to create an FSA ID (fsaid.ed.gov) and have access to their 2019 federal taxes to submit the FAFSA. You and/or your student can schedule a time with Mr. Markusic to complete the FAFSA here: www.tinyurl.com/MarkusicDavisAppointments

Sophomore & Junior Parents: Three times a year, College Now runs an after-school SAT preparation program called impact!. We are still offering this program while school is virtual, and our next session runs from January 11-March 12. Students who participate and successfully complete the program will receive additional support in math, reading, grammar, and college and career exploration, as well as a $200 stipend. This program is open to any student in Cuyahoga County, but Davis students should choose "CPL-Main" as their location. If your student is not interested in attending college, or is interested in college and would like to know more about careers, view and register for presentations on a number of career fields here. From film and photography to cosmetology to government careers, there is a wide variety of offerings.

CMSD’s Parent University program has scheduled virtual tours of college campuses for students and their families.

The District’s Family and Community Engagement Department typically schedules in-person campus tours in the fall but had to cancel those plans this year due to the threat of COVID-19.

Is your Davis student interested in participating in Aviation Club, Boat Building Club, or utilizing the 3D printers in the Fabrication Lab? For more information on these activities and others, fill out the Thematic Opportunities Interest form.
