Frankley School Newsletter

Our thoughts continue to be with Jenny and John Cooklsey. Jenny has been taking care of her husband this term as he was diagnosed with a brain tumour while they were holidaying in Melbourne. He is still receiving excellent care in Australia. Jenny has requested leave until the end of term 4 which has been granted by our very supportive Frankley School Board of Trustees. Jess Uru has agreed to stay on until the end of the school year. We are very lucky to have her for another term, and I know our learners and staff are appreciating her calm, kind manner, sense of humour and enthusiasm for learning.

Well done to to the Trinders. Anna and her whānau are very excited about the early arrival of their pēpī (baby) last Friday.

At the moment I am working through the community consultation feedback in regards to our Frankley School Vision realignment. I will share the information in the coming weeks. So far there is a very strong message of being community minded: caring for people and the environment, and for being kind, honest and empathetic.

A huge congratulations to the Blue Sticks hockey team. They played a fabulous final a couple of weeks ago.. The sheer determination for the duration of the game was impressive. It was a massive win against their opponents Mangorei however their team’s humble nature was a positive attribute to witness on the turf. Good luck to our Year 6 basketball team who are competing in their final on Monday night, 6pm, at the TSB stadium.

We really appreciate children being at school each day and on time. If your child is not attending school please email the office admin@frankley.school.nz, use the skool loop app or ring and leave a message on the absentee line. We can spend up to 40 minutes each morning trying to track children down. Thank you for your support.

It was wonderful to see such positive attitudes last week at our annual school cross country. These children received a certificate at our whakangahau today for making the top 3 in their age group.

A number of children went on to represent Frankley School at the New Plymouth Cross Country. Unfortunately we have not yet received the official placings, congratulations to all who took part especially those who placed. We will keep you updated.

Term 3 2019

Friday 27 September- Nearest and Dearest day . Check out the details to share with your nearest and dearest. They can come along and spend some time with us at Frankley School.

Term 4 2019

Thursday 24 October - Ukulele Festival 7.00pm TSB Stadium

Tuesday 29 and Thursday 31 October - Student Led Conferences (times to be confirmed). These will take place after school. Online booking details to come out next term.

Friday 1 November-Puanga Kapa Haka Festival

Sunday 10 November - Frankley School Carnival. This is a great day out and a positive way to support our school community.

We will continue to add important dates to the newsletter and the school website. The last day of the school year is Tuesday 17 December. Our farewell for our Year 6 students will take place on this special day.

Taranaki has had several cases of people with measles. We don’t have an outbreak at the moment but more cases are likely because of the large outbreak in Auckland.

Now is a very good time to make sure everyone in your whanau has protection against measles. Children should be vaccinated on time at 15 months and four years of age.

If you don’t think you are immune to measles you need to make an appointment with your GP clinic for an MMR vaccination.

Please be patient if you can’t be vaccinated straight away. It is not possible to vaccinate everyone at once.

The risk of catching measles in Taranaki is still low.
