A Note to our Parents
Dear Parents and Guardians,
The D91 Team values your collaboration and involvement and 91 will be offering Parent-Teacher Conferences in person and virtually again this year. In-person conferences will be held on Monday, November 25 from 12:30-4:00 pm and 5:30-8:00 pm. Virtual conferences will be held on Tuesday, November 26 from 8:30-11:30 am and 12:30-3:00 pm. Parents/Guardians must schedule a conference time through Meet the Teacher.
The system allows you to choose your own appointment times with teachers from the teachers' available appointments. If you choose Monday, the in-person date, you will simply come to the school at the appointed time. If you choose Tuesday's virtual meetings, you will log back in and use the Meet the Teacher website to efficiently video conference with the teachers you have set an appointment with that day. Please see the parent guide linked here for details about the user experience, or watch the video linked here.
Beginning on Friday, November 1, guardians are asked to visit: https://lockport91.meettheteacher.com/
(Click the button below for easy access) Logging in is simple and uses information you already know. After entering your name and your child(ren)'s identifying information, you will be able to create conference appointments with any teacher in your child(ren)'s schedule. After registering, parent/guardians will receive an email confirmation with a link to access the conferences along with an option to add the meetings to their calendar. If you cannot locate the email, please check your spam folder or log back into the website to verify your schedule. Appointments and changes can only be made until November 20. Changes to appointments after that date will need to be made through contacting the main office of your child(ren)'s school.
If you do not have access to the internet, please contact the school office who will be happy to add appointments on your behalf. This is the only formal conferences that we will offer throughout the year, though we encourage you to contact your child's teacher(s) whenever you have questions or concerns.
Thank you,
Mr. John Jennings, Principal, Kelvin Grove

A Message From Mrs. Dragosh Regarding Attendance
District 91 requires parents/guardians to contact the Attendance Office at (815) 838-0737 extension 1, PRIOR TO 9 a.m. whenever a child will be late to school or will be absent for any part of the school day.
The message must contain the following information:
1. Student’s first and last name, their grade, and a teacher name.
2. Detailed reason or symptom for the absence or why the student will be late to school (students that are not called in or are called in without a reason are considered TRUANT and unexcused, and will be reported as such).
3. Your name, relationship to the student, and a call back number.
A ParentSquare notification is sent out to parents/guardians who have not called in their child by 9 a.m. and have not signed in by 9 a.m., and to parents/guardians that only indicate their child “will not be in school” or are “out due to a family emergency” requesting the parent/guardian contact the Attendance Office immediately to advise the details of the absence. Family emergencies may be considered an excused absence depending on the details that are provided. If you fail to contact the Attendance Office the child will be marked truant. Student attendance is crucial to student success.
Appointments during the school day are discouraged, but we also understand that nowadays there can be no other choice. If your child needs to be dismissed anytime during the day (e.g., dental or doctor appointment), please notify the Attendance Office prior to the absence. Proof of the appointment is required in order for the absence to be considered excused. See student/parent handbook on our website regarding make up work and/or a pre-arranged absence.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 815-838-0737 ext. #1104 or you can email me at cdragosh@d91.net.
Notes from the Health Offices
The CDC recommends that everyone 6 months and older should get a flu vaccine every season with rare exceptions. Vaccination is particularly important for people who are at higher risk of serious complications from influenza.
Medications - As always, please remember ALL medication needs a medication authorization form (which is available in the office and online) on file in the nurse’s office AND the medication must be in its original container with the label adhered to it. Cough drops, supplements, and over the counter (OTC) medications are included in this. Please contact us with any changes in your student’s medications or the development of any health concerns during the school year. It is important that your student’s health record is kept current.
Clothing - Please make sure your student has an extra change of season appropriate clothing in his/her backpack in case they are needed for any unseen circumstances that may arise during the school day.
Also with the colder weather setting in, PLEASE send students to school with appropriate outerwear including coats, hats, and gloves/mittens. Remember, students go outside for recess as long as the “feels like” temperature is 20 degrees and above.
Please make sure that you have the school phone numbers saved in your phone so that you will recognize the number if we need to call you regarding your student being ill at school, needing to be picked up, etc.

Counseling/Social Work News
“It is not happy people who are thankful, it is thankful people who are happy.” November usually brings reflection on all that we are thankful and grateful for; however, the practice of expressing gratitude should be built into our daily habits as it has many positive benefits.
The ability to show gratitude not only allows us to feel at peace with the possessions we have, but it also helps us to build strong relationships with others. Gratitude is not an instinct, it has to be taught. All young children are egocentric by nature, but there are many ways we can help them appreciate the things and people in their lives.
Practicing daily gratitude can lead to improved mood, reduced stress, increased happiness, and overall health benefits. It is a simple practice that we can learn to implement into our daily lives in five minutes or less, however it must be intentionally practiced and modeled for children. You can help your child learn gratitude practices by modeling it for them, saying thank you when gifts or special acts of service are received, involving them in our everyday responsibilities such as cleaning or cooking, and downplaying gifts by having them create a “thankful for” list as well as their “wish list” for holidays and birthdays.
Use the calendar prompts below to implement daily talks of gratitude. The prompts can be used while driving in the car, around the dinner table, before bed as we reflect on the day, or any small moment of time you can fit them in. Continue to practice gratitude in your everyday life to see the positive benefits it can offer!
If you would like additional support or resources surrounding gratitude, please contact the following people at your designated school:
