No School Monday- January 20th MLK Jr. Day
Martin Luther King Jr. Day is not only a time to honor his legacy but also a National Day of Service, encouraging us all to contribute to our communities in meaningful ways. This day reminds us that service is at the heart of Dr. King’s message of justice and equality. Whether through acts of kindness, volunteering, or standing up for what’s right, every small gesture helps to create a more compassionate, unified society. Let’s keep Dr. King’s dream alive by finding ways to serve others and make a difference every day.

Recording artist Matt Nathanson joined Mrs. Stormont's AP Literature classes this week to respond to student analysis of his song lyrics. In giving feedback, Matt talked about seeking truth, the ability to hold conflicting emotions and ideas, making sure to notice everyday wonders, and the impact of connecting with people. Special thanks to Matt for taking time to talk with us in the midst of releasing new songs and preparing for a national tour that begins in February.

Updated Jan. 20th
Last week, the seniors had an informational meeting about the Scituate Scholarship Program. The following details were communicated to all who attended:
ANY student who is a resident of Scituate graduating from an accredited high school is eligible to apply for consideration of all scholarships awarded.
ANY out of district student enrolled in a SHS CTE pathway is eligible to apply for consideration of the Lion’s CTE scholarship.
It is strongly recommended applicants include the SAR page of the FAFSA (page that shows student’s SAI#) with their scholarship application. Financial need is weighed heavily in the review process so applications without an SAI# will be at a significant disadvantage. Student’s should not include their entire FAFSA with their application, only the page with the SAI#.
Applications are due by March 28th, 2025
Students who are selected to receive a scholarship will be notified in May and will be recognized at Senior Awards night.
Recipients will receive an envelope with an acknowledgement form that must be completed and returned to Mrs. Erickson prior to the week of graduation.
Checks will be made payable to the institution but mailed to the student in August, prior to students leaving for school. Students are responsible for delivering the check to the financial aid office when they arrive on campus so the school can credit their account.
*The Scituate Scholarship Fund is owned and operated by the Town of Scituate and Scituate Lion’s. The criteria for eligibility of awards and the selection of recipients is determined by the Town. Scituate High School is proud to facilitate the application process for the town but is not responsible for eligibility criteria or decisions made by any town organization or committee.*
Connections Survey
During an Advisory period in the month of January, all high school students will be taking a Connections Survey. This is a research-based survey that encourages students to think about and report personal connections they have with adults and other students within the school building. The information provided by each survey will be kept confidential aside from support staff, if necessary. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to our School Psychologist, Emma Hackett. Thank you!
CCRI Dental Day for Seniors

FAFSA Now Open!
FAFSA is OPEN!
The U.S. Department of Education has released the 2025-26 FAFSA form – 10 days in advance of the agency’s stated goal of December 1. The online FAFSA form is available to all students and families at FAFSA.gov, and the Department is processing submissions and sending them to schools. You can find their announcement here. Students who are planning for life after high school during the 2025-2026 school year are highly encouraged to fill out the form. It is critical to ensure that all students are completing their FAFSA to have a chance at financial support for their postsecondary education plans. Completing the FAFSA is a gateway for not only federal financial aid, but also grants, scholarships, and work-study.
Students and contributors (parents and guardians) will need to create an FSA ID/StudentAid ID prior to filling out the application. The FSA ID is a username and password combination used to log in to the U.S. Department of Education online systems and is used every year when filling out the FAFSA.
Share out this fillable FSA ID/Studentaid.gov account creation guide and worksheet with your students/families
To help communicate the importance of FAFSA, RIDE has created monthly messages for you to share with students and families (including necessary links and directions).
Please refer to the message document here and use the messages each month to keep students and their families informed.
The College Planning Center is a great resource to support FAFSA/FSA ID completion. They also provide a School Counselor Toolkit for the FAFSA check it out here! Look for updates to the FAFSA Dashboard soon!
Please Consider Donating

The Spartans registered an unbeaten season and captured a Division III championship with Simas leading their attack. He was the key in the midfield, able to threaten opponents while shooting from distance, dribbling forward or spotting teammates slipping into space.
