A Message From the Principal
Greetings Families, Friends & Caregivers,
Spring is just around the corner! The third quarter of school will come to an end March 22nd. Time sure flies when you are having FUN!
Our students have made some great gains in their Reading scores! Here are some of our second quarter celebrations schoolwide.
Madison Elementary had 84 students with 98% or higher attendance in the final month of the second quarter! These students earned our Super Attendance Award. Attending school, everyday, ready to learn and on time matters! This is how our classes earn the HERO Award each week.
Our youngest learners are really advancing in their skills as well. The average Kindergarten Theme Vocabulary Sentence Score for Quarter 2 was 88.5%! This is outstanding!
We also celebrate the reading you are doing at home with your children. Your children receive a Golden Ticket when they return Read and Respond Forms. We then have a drawing of Golden Tickets, where students can earn a FREE slice of pizza, donuts or ice cream from local businesses.
Madison Elementary is soaring to new heights! Thank you for fostering a love of reading and learning at home. We are your partner in education! Together we can and will make a difference in the lives
of our children.
Happy Spring! ~Mrs. Eichmeier
Ms. Groelle’s class earns the HERO Award with 96% attendance for the week!
Our Golden Ticket winners from last week's Read & Respond sheets!

Library News
March is going to be a busy time! We are going to begin March Madness but book style (Tournament of Books). We combined Read Across America with the Tournament of Books, so kids will have dress up days every Friday to go with different books. Along with the Tournament of Books, Spring Break occurs from March 23-March 31. Students will receive a Reading Scavenger Hunt over Spring Break. Like over Winter Break, students should try to complete as many as possible. Students who return the scavenger hunt will receive a prize!
Please make sure students are returning all their borrowed Library books.
Thank You,
Mrs. Bohman

The Reading Corner - SFA Updates
Greetings Families with Madison Kindergarteners,
It’s hard to believe we are in the middle of the 3rd quarter! As your Kindergartener begins to prepare for 1st grade next year, one area of focus is developing their oral language skills. We have been teaching and encouraging your child to answer questions in full, complete sentences with details. You can support this work at home with your child by encouraging them to add details to their responses. Below is the rubric we score your children on weekly. Any extra practice you can provide outside of school is much appreciated!
Reading Between the Lions - Reading Roots
Greetings Families with Students in Roots,
Thank you so much for your continued support reading with your child at home. Every week your child’s teacher sends home a Shared Story book for you to read with your child. The inside cover is a great way to practice decodable words (Green Words) and high frequency words (Red Words). We teach your children that they can sound out the Green Words. Ask your child to show you how!
Reading Wings
Greetings Families with Wings Students,
We continue to teach your children how to Clarify when they meet a word they don’t know. Below is a copy of our clarifying card we use in class every day to help teach this important skill. As your child reads at home, feel free to ask for words they needed to clarify (figure out the meaning of) and what strategy they used to do this work!
