A Word From Leadership
Good evening scholars/families and community,
We are excited to share with you how our scholars have fared during their first full week at school! It has been wonderful to see them get acclimating to their daily schedules and engaging in various activities. Many scholars even tackled their first assessments, marking a significant step in their academic journey as we continue to create avenues for opportunity and access.
On-time arrival at school is crucial for our scholars to make the most of their learning experiences. We encourage you to help your child arrive promptly each day (we will continue to support on time arrival with our buses), as this sets a positive tone for their day and ensures they don’t miss important information.
To stay informed about your scholar’s progress, we recommend utilizing the parent portal. This resource provides you with access to grades, attendance, and assignments, making it easier to support your child’s academic success.
This past week, we also held class meetings where scholars learned about our cell phone plan/procedures. We kindly ask families to refrain from calling or texting their scholars during school hours to minimize distractions. Please note that we will conclude the grace period for cell phone use/distractions during class time this week. If a scholar is found using their electronic devices inappropriately or during class time, we have a plan in place to address this.
We are pleased to inform you that almost every scholar has been issued their school Chromebook, and our 9th and 10th graders are working towards obtaining AVID binders and planners. If your scholar is in need of support in acquiring a binder or planner, please contact Liz Jensen at ejensen@isd14.org or 763-502-5013.
Thank you for your continued support. Let’s continue to work together to ensure a successful school year for our scholars!
Take care and Go Tigers!
Warm regards,
Your Fridley High School Administration Team
Saludos cordiales,
Su equipo administrativo de Fridley High School

Annual Notification
Minnesota Statute 121A.335 requires public school buildings serving pre-kindergarten through grade 12 to test for lead in water every 5 years. Fridley Public Schools has historically conducted and continues to conduct Lead in Drinking Water testing per the Minnesota Department of Health guidelines. If found, the District remediates lead levels following the Minnesota Department of Health guidelines and completes retesting prior to use.
For more information on Fridley Public Schools’s lead reduction program and testing results, is located on the District website here: https://www.fridleyschools.org/about-us/departments/buildings-grounds/quality-monitoring-management-plan
Students of the Month
Congratulations to these students for being recognized this month by their teachers for their incredible contributions to the learning environment and school community. These students demonstrate responsibility, respect, and realness in their classes at FHS. Way to go!

Class of 2025- Senior Credit Update & Senior Checklist:
Letters were sent in late September indicating that a senior is currently on track to graduate. If you did not receive a letter, it’s possible your scholar needs credit recovery or there was a delay in the letter being sent. Letters for seniors who are currently not on track will be sent in October along with credit recovery information. If you have questions about the credit status of your senior, please contact the student’s academic dean.

Ms. Miller-Johnson N-Z millerjohn@isd14.org
Class Meetings
The deans and admin had class meetings with all grade levels in early September. During these meetings, information was shared about credits, graduation requirements, attendance, and the new cell phone guidelines. The slides from these meetings can be found on the grade-level Google Classroom pages.
Schedules for 1st Semester
When students request courses during the registration process in February, they agree to pursue the chosen courses to completion. Since schedule changes have a serious impact on class sizes, teacher assignments and the overall master schedule, they need to be kept to a minimum. Because we have completed one month of school, schedule changes for the first semester will no longer be permitted.
We appreciate your understanding on this matter.
Letters of Recommendation (12th Grade)
Students may need letters of recommendation for some college applications or for scholarships. Typically, recommenders may be teachers (current or former), employers, coaches, or other adults who can highlight the leadership and/or academic qualities of the student. Students are asked to fill out the Letter of Recommendation Form and give the completed form to the recommender. The form can be found linked here:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1-VZIJoeDaaF3M_XYKWYKawndBKIgK479EhGnbM_BQy4/copy
If the application requires a school counselor, please use the academic dean to complete that portion.
Things for students to remember:
Talk to the recommender early! Two weeks is generally a good minimum amount of time for a recommender to complete a well-written letter.
Give recommenders the exact details—What/who is the letter for? When is it due? How is the letter submitted?
· Always ask the recommender permission to use them as a recommender on an application. Ask in person, if possible. Email is generally acceptable as well.
· Use recommenders who will be able to highlight positives.
· It’s ok for a recommender to say no. They may not have the time to devote to a letter right now.
ACT Exams
All 11th graders will take the ACT later in the spring. Students are always welcome to take the ACT outside of the assigned district testing day. The ACT test does have a fee ranging from $50-$67. Fee waivers are available in the SSS office for students who qualify for free/reduced lunch. Please see your dean with questions.
Upcoming ACT tests/registration deadlines:
Test: December 14 Deadline: November 8
PreACT Test for 9th Grade
All 9th grade students will be taking the PreACT test this November 13th. PreACT assessments offer 8th, 9th, and 10th graders an early experience with ACT test items, provides a predicted ACT test score, and offers a wealth of information to help students get the start they need to be college ready. More information about the PreACT will be provided to families in mid October. 10th Graders will take the PreACT in April along with the 11th graders who take the ACT.
College and Career
October is College Knowledge Month! This is an extremely important month for 12th grade students for many reasons. During the month of October, many colleges and universities in Minnesota will be free to apply to! Throughout this month, the College and Career Center will be hosting senior college application workshops, there will be college knowledge lessons in Advisory, college representatives will be visiting FHS during One Lunch, and the school-wide college fair will be held on November 1st. Questions on College Knowledge Month? Please contact Matt Kiefer at kiefer@isd14.org.
