Nature Art Project and Wellness/Connection Activity
The Grade 2s and 3s have had a wonderful start to the school year. In Science, we learned about natural materials and got to make a project using materials we found outside. In Art, we used our hands to make a back-to-school art project.

Elementary Halloween Parent Letter
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Halloween is fast approaching and I thought I’d give you a little more information about the events of our Halloween celebration on Thursday, October 31!
We will be painting pumpkins with our Reading Buddies on Tuesday, Oct. 29th. Please send in a small pumpkin with your child on or before next Tuesday.
On Halloween, we will have regular classes in the morning, but students are able to wear their costumes to school if they wish. If not, students can put their costumes on at lunch recess and teachers will be there to assist if needed. Please be mindful when choosing a costume for your child, and refrain from any scary costumes, entire face-covering masks and violent props.
We will have a Halloween Parade in the Gym at 2:30. Parents are welcome to watch the students as they parade around the Gym. Prior to our parade, students will be having Halloween parties and activities in their own classrooms. Students are welcome to bring special snacks for their class. A big thank you to Parent Council for initiating a door decorating contest. One lucky class will win an ice-cream sundae party on October 31st, courtesy of Parent Council.
Thank you in advance and Happy Halloween!

October 30, 2024
Dear Parents and Guardians of BRSD:
As we reach the end of October, I want to take a moment to share some highlights from our Assurance Report. Each year, Battle River School Division participates in the Alberta Education Assurance (AEA) survey, gathering input from parents and guardians of students in Grades 4, 7 and 10, along with teachers and students.
This feedback helps us gain valuable insight from the entire school community, guiding us as we enhance our programs and learning environments. Survey findings include key achievements that reflect ongoing commitment of our staff, students and community.
BRSD is proud to report that 86.8 per cent of teachers, parents and students are satisfied with their overall quality of basic education, and that 83.4 per cent of our teachers, parents and students agree that their learning environments are welcoming, caring, respectful and safe. Another noteworthy achievement is BRSD’s significant increase in three-year high school completion rates. Nearly eight per cent (from 75.6 to 83.5) was gained in just one year.
These commendable results reflect the diligence of students and staff in a collective effort to improve student academic goals in an inclusive, positive learning environment. This achievement, in alignment with our values, is a demonstration of exceptional effort and collaboration that makes BRSD so proud!
I have witnessed countless celebrations that showcase student opportunities in BRSD. I am sharing this article that was written for the fall edition of CASS Connection magazine. The story features student opportunities and the importance of preparing our students for future careers.
Here are some of our student voices. Many thanks to these students who shared their voices to help create radio and video messaging to share throughout our community.
• Hay Lakes student, Teddi: National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (Sept.)
• Viking students, Barrett, Luke and Isabella: Terry Fox Run (Sept.)
• Tofield student, Collin: Awards Ceremonies (Oct.)
• Ryley student, Georgia: Bus Safety Week (Oct.)

School Bus Safety Week
New Norway School Participated in School Bus Safety Week. On October 22, all classes practiced bus evacuations. A big thank you to our bus drivers guiding our students and keeping them safe as they travel to and from our school.
Visiting New Norway School:
To ensure a safe environment for all, we kindly ask that all parents and guests come to the school office upon arrival during school hours. Please refrain from using side doors to enter classrooms or the gym unless it is during authorized after hours event.
We appreciate your support and understanding as we prioritize the safety of our school community.
Yearly forms:
Please take a few minutes to complete your child's demographic forms on PowerSchool.
It is important that this information be kept up-to-date every year, especially if there is a change in medical status, parent/guardian/emergency contact information, and/or address.
Students who do not have their forms in by the end of Sept. will see a disruption in their computer access.
If you need assistance with using PowerSchool - including completing and submitting yearly consent and demographic forms online - please contact Miss Miller in the office.

I’d like to acknowledge that we are on Treaty 6 territory, a traditional meeting grounds, gathering place, and travelling route to the Cree, Saulteaux, Blackfoot, Métis, Dene and Nakota Sioux. We acknowledge all the many First Nations, Métis, and Inuit whose footsteps have marked these lands for centuries.
