Principal's Message
Greetings SHMS community!
I want to give a big shout out to our Mock Trial club, cheerleading team, and students who prepared to teach and entertain us during Friday's Black History Month celebration! Last weekend our cheerleaders took home a second place finish, students from all grade levels performed and presented during our BHM celebration on Friday afternoon, and students in Mock Trial successfully tried their case that same evening. Thank you to the adults and partners who sponsor both activities, keep expectations high for our students, and should proudly share credit for these achievements!
We are excited to host families this upcoming Thursday evening for the first round of Spring parent-teacher conferences. If you have not already done so, you can sign up for a conference this Thursday or during the evening of Tuesday, March 11th. As a reminder, these events replace the parent-teacher conferences listed for Thursday March 13th on the DCPS calendar. If you do not attend conferences this Spring, know that you can always reach out to any teacher or staff member by email to find time to connect about your student's standing.
Thank you all for your partnership in supporting our students now and always, let's have another great week working together!
Warm regards,
Eric Fraser
Principal

News and Announcements
Parent-Teacher Conference Registration Open!
We are excited to welcome families to our first of two Parent-Teacher Conferences sessions for this term on Thursday March 6th, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. If your student is not yet succeeding across the board there is still time for you to schedule a meeting with their teachers for the March 6th or Tuesday, March 11th parent-teacher conference events. Families have the choice of joining conferences in-person at Stuart-Hobson or via a virtual meeting link (specific to each teacher) that will be shared before the upcoming conference dates. Upon scheduling, please type "virtual" if a virtual meeting is needed.
Use this link to schedule a conference: https://www.ptcfast.com/schools/Stuart_Hobson_Middle_School_
On Thursday, families who are participating in in-person conferences will enter through the main entrance at 410 E Street NE, where members of the leadership team will handle check-in and direct them to their conferences. Leadership team members, guidance counselors, and social workers will also be available to answer questions and provide support as needed throughout the evening.
Reminder: SHMS Food Policy
As part of our commitment to student health, wellness, and building cleanliness, we are reinforcing our Snack Policy in alignment with the Healthy Schools Act. These guidelines are designed to ensure that students have access to nutritious options that support their well-being and learning. Students may not bring large containers of highly processed snacks into the building. These items will be confiscated at weapons abatement and will not be returned.
Panorama Family Survey Opens Monday, February 24!
Each Spring, DC Public Schools asks our families to complete the annual DCPS Panorama Family Survey, an anonymous survey that the school system uses to collect vital feedback for DCPS as a whole, and your student(s) school leadership, about your family's experiences within the schools.
Stuart-Hobson would be very grateful if you can take approximately 10 minutes to complete the DCPS Panorama Family Survey between February 24-March 28th. You can reach the survey here: https://dcsays.dc.gov/
All responses to the survey are 100% confidential, and there is no way to tie anything you write back to you or your child. If you have children in more than one DCPS schools, the survey will allow you to complete it more than once for each of the relevant schools. Thank you for your attention to this, and for your support for Stuart-Hobson!
Athletics
2024-2025 Athletics' Participation Packet
The 2024-2025 Athletics’ Participation packet has been released. All students must complete a participation packet every school year. Additionally, the medical forms must be completed within the prior 365 days. We encourage you to have your healthcare provider complete these forms before the school year and attach them to your participation packet. If your student’s UHC has been updated recently, you are encouraged to complete the participation packet as soon as possible.
Universal Health Certificate (UHC).
Students with certain medical conditions may also need to complete an Asthma Action Plan or an Anaphylaxis Action Plan
Please note that it is not necessary to submit a new participation packet for each season. A complete packet includes the DCIAA forms filled out in their entirety along with a Universal Health Certificate that was completed within the last year. Stuart-Hobson Student Attendance
The Cluster is a strong community of families, and the PTA strengthens that community by working together to support our students and campuses. Joining the PTA is a great opportunity to learn more about our school, enrich the student experience, and meet new people. PTA dues help fund critical programs, as well as supplies for music, art, library, and athletics.
