DOLPHINS MAKE A SPLASH!
Our vision at our campus is to make sure “Donald Dolphins are fearless problem-solvers who choose to face challenges with an open mind and a kind heart.” To achieve this vision, we encourage all students to intentionally focus on growth of 6 specific skills we call the Essential Dolphin Skills. We want to support our students in making a positive SPLASH in our school and our community because we understand every small splash creates a ripple that extends to others!
When we spot students going above and beyond in modeling these skills, they may be recognized with a Splash Note! Splash Notes are paper “shoutouts” where staff members write a short note about a student’s great deeds or accomplishments related to the Essential Dolphin Skill they exhibited. Students are able to hang their Splash Notes on the wall in the main hallway so everyone at Donald can read about how they demonstrated one of those 6 skills and contributed to making our school a great place.
On Friday morning, students participated in a school-wide Pep Rally to learn about the Essential Dolphin Skills. The event began with the KKIDS News Crew providing morning announcements before students helped us review our SPLASH skills. We talked about the important role we all play as part of the Donald Dolphin family, and how we are part of the Flower Mound Jaguar family, too. We learned about the FMHS school song, and we practiced the FMHS Battlecry together.
The best part of our time together during the Pep Rally was celebrating 7 students teachers saw making a SPLASH during the first few days of school. These students were rewarded with a Splash Note to add to our SPLASH wall, a special dolphin keychain, and a Golden Token to use at the Donald Book Machine. Thanks for making our school a great place to learn and grow, Dolphins!
BEGINNING ON THE YEAR REMINDERS
MORNING DROP OFF
Please refer back to the Back to School Parent Information Handout all families received a printed copy of for further details about arrival and morning routines.
HELP BE A MODEL FOR OUR STUDENTS
We love when families embrace this mindset and help us in teaching the most important reason for campus rules and procedures: they are made to keep us all SAFE! Each of you can help reinforce this by familiarizing yourself with our arrival and dismissal procedures and helping other families to remember the safety rules. Model use of the correct areas for drop-off and pick-up, do not allow students to cross traffic areas without an adult present, and walk your bike when on school property. When children see you honoring the rules for safety, it helps them to find value in making safe choices, too!
LISD DRESS CODE
We need family support helping students transition from summer-wear and into school-appropriate apparel.
Though temperatures outdoors remain high, shorts, skirts, and dresses must be an appropriate length (at or about mid-thigh), and spandex shorts may only be worn if the buttocks area is fully covered and worn underneath a dress, skirt, or long shirt. Students may not wear shirts that bare the midriff, back, torso, and completely bare the shoulder are prohibited. Additionally, students are required to wear shoes appropriate for the school setting. Flip flops may not be worn by elementary students for safety reasons, and hats, caps, and other headcoverings may not be worn inside the school building.
Young students grow very quickly and growth spurts can seem to happen overnight, but it is important to ensure all clothing is appropriately fitted! You can find more detailed information about what to wear in the LISD Dress Code.
23/24 YEARBOOK PICKUP
Due to the unfortunate delayed arrival of our 23/24 yearbook last spring, we were unable to properly sell the extra copies. If you are interested in purchasing one, click the link below to place your order: https://www.balfour.com/texas/flower-mound/donald-elementary-school
To ensure that you get your yearbook quickly, please forward your receipt to rosiera@lisd.net and Mrs. Rosier will send the yearbook home with your child the next day.
TECHNOLOGY REMINDERS
ATTENTION 4TH & 5TH GRADE PARENTS
Please take care of Skyward iPad forms and fees as soon as possible! All forms and fees are due no later than August 30, and LISD Technology will begin collecting iPads on September 3 from students with incomplete forms and/or unpaid fees.
PERFORMING DOLPHINS WANTED!
This year, students in Grade 2 through Grade 5 will have the opportunity to participate in the Donald Theatre Club! This club is a school club that will be sponsored by Mrs. Emmett and Mrs. Herrin. Theatre improves learning abilities, develops leadership and communication skills, boosts self-confidence, fosters teamwork, stimulates creative thinking and problem-solving, and encourages self-expression.
Meetings will take place on Mondays after school until 4:30 PM, and we will put on a fall show and spring musical. Registration will be open to all students in 2nd-5th grade, but we will have a limited number of students in the club. If student interest is greater than the number of spaces allotted, we will draw names to determine which students will participate. A wait list of students will be created from those who are not selected in the lottery in case spots become available during the year.
For a chance to participate, students and parents must complete an online form, and students must submit a short audition video. CLICK HERE for details about joining the Donald Theatre Club!
GET READY TO RUN, DOLPHINS!
This year Mrs. Rosier will be hosting Donald Run Club again for 3rd, 4th and 5th graders on Thursdays from 3:45-4:15. The Run Club will run an 8 week training season starting on Thursday, October 8 , and students will be training towards the FM Reindeer Run that will take place December 2. The registration link will be shared soon, so be on the lookout for it in the weekly newsletter.
There is an another great run in the area this fall, too! Dorothy’s Dash takes place November 16. It is organized by the City of Flower Mound, and registration is open now. If interested, go here for details. It would be great to see some Dolphins at this event! Keep on RUNNING!

We are in the middle of doing our very first guidance lesson with all the amazing Donald Dolphins. I have enjoyed meeting several students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades this week. I am looking forward to meeting the rest of the students in the next couple weeks. We have spent time getting to know each other and talking about all the ways I can support students.
Next week, our Kindness Ambassadors will meet for the first time to start planning some fun for our upcoming Kindness Week. Be ready to spread some kindness September 16th through 20th!

LISD WHOLE CHILD SERIES
In Lewisville ISD, the whole child is at the core of everything we do as a district, including our students' mental, emotional and physical health. With counselors on every campus, LISD knows parents want their children to receive an outstanding education, but more importantly, they want their children to be nurtured and cared for beyond just academics.
The Lewisville ISD Counseling and Social Work Department is grateful to partner with you to support the social emotional needs of all LISD students. We believe education on these issues is key to helping our students become happy, successful people.
Please review these flyers describing different social issues our students may face. If you have any areas that we may assist you or your student, please contact your student’s school counselor.
We would love to have you volunteer in our classrooms and at extracurricular events! To get started, JOIN the Donald PTA, and then complete your yearly VOLY Background Check. All volunteers must have a current VOLY Background Check, so if it has been a while since you completed this process, check in with the Donald Office Staff to see if you're approved!
PTA MEETING: SEPTEMBER 5
Join us for our first PTA Meeting of the year at Donald! Thursday, September 5, families are invited to join us in the carfeteria for an Ice Cream social at 5:30PM, and you are encouraged to stick around for our PTA General Meeting beginning at 6:00PM. This is the perfect opportunity to hear about events and programs PTA will be supporting on campus throughout the year!
GET VOLY-APPROVED TODAY!
Lewisville ISD's volunteer site, VOLY, is up and ready for the new school year. If you plan to volunteer on campus, act as a field trip chaperone, or support our campus at any point in the 24-25 school year, please either create a VOLY account or renew your account from last year. LISD's VOLY site is Lewisvilleisd.voly.org. There is also a VOLY app that can be found in the app store on your phone.
Remember that our VOLY site allows for the site to be translated to your family's home language. Look for the language drop down button at the top of the page.
Questions? Reach out to Partnerships@Lisd.net and they will be happy to assist you!
TELL SOMEONE HOW MUCH THEY MEAN
The LISD Recognize SomeONE program gives our staff and community members the opportunity to highlight the exceptional work the do. If a Donald staff member has made an impact on your student or family this week, please take a moment to Recognize SomeONE and let them know how much they mean! Teachers will receive a printed copy of your message from LISD Communications to display outside their classroom door.
HELP US HOST THE WOOT WOOT WAGON
Mrs. Harvey and Mrs. Whitsett, 5th grade teachers at Donald, began hosting a monthly treat cart called the Woot Woot Wagon last year. The Woot Woot Wagon was created to provide all Donald staff with fun snacks and drinks once a month. It is something all of our Donald staff gets so excited for, but it can't happen without the help of our Donald families! If you would like to sign-up to donate something to the Woot Woot Wagon this year, please click on the link here.
