Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month
May is observed as Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month in the United States. This month recognizes the contributions and influences of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islander Americans to the history, culture, and achievements of the United States. Thirty countries make up this month's heritage celebration: Asia's regions consist of Northern Asia (Russia, Siberia), Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan), Western Asia (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Cyprus, Egypt, Georgia, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen), Southern Asia (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Burma, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Tibet), Eastern Asia (China, Hong Kong, Japan, Macau, Mongolia, North Korea, South Korea, and Taiwan) and finally South East Asia (Brunei, Cambodia, East Timor, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam). The Pacific Islands comprised of Melanesia (New Guinea, New Caledonia, Vanuatu, Fiji and the Solomon Islands), Micronesia (Marianas, Guam, Wake Island, Palau, Marshall Islands, Kiribati, Nauru and the Federal States of Micronesia) and Polynesia (New Zealand, Hawaiian Islands, Rotuma, Midway Islands, Samoa, American Samoa, Tonga, Tuvalu, Cook Islands, French Polynesia and Easter Island). Jewish American Heritage Month
Jewish American Heritage Month
Jewish American Heritage Month is a month to celebrate the contributions Jewish Americans have made to America since they first arrived in New Amsterdam in 1654.
In 2020 the National Museum of American Jewish History in Philadelphia repositioned Jewish American Heritage Month to empower communities across the country to celebrate the inspiring history of Jewish people in America; educate diverse public audiences about Jewish culture; and spark crucial conversations about the American Jewish present and future.
For more information on Jewish American Heritage Month see Library of Congress: Jewish American Heritage Month.

We raised $10,000 this week! Thank you Lin Howe!
We have not hit 5 families per grade yet. Can your family be the 1 more we need to help reach this week’s goal?
Our children deserve to have a dedicated aide for each grade. This is only possible with your contribution.
Did you know?
Linwood Howe was one of two Culver City USD elementary schools recognized earlier this year as a California Distinguished Schools. To be considered, schools had to meet stringent criteria, including:
- Achieving high performance in English language arts and mathematics
- Demonstrating significant progress in closing achievement gaps
- Maintaining a positive school climate
These types of achievements and school climate are made possible with the help of our aides. Let’s not lose them next year.

Ridwell Recycling Drive!
Linwood Howe is keeping plastic film out of landfills with Ridwell this spring! To participate in this limited-time recycling drive and celebrate Earth Month, bring plastic film (ziptop bags, grocery bags, bubble wrap, and lots more) to school on April 8th - May 6th and drop it in the blue bins by the entrance. Ridwell will make sure it stays out of landfills. It’ll be turned into new decking materials instead! Start collecting plastic film at home now so you have a bunch for the drive.
Curious about at-home recycling pickup from Ridwell? They collect hundreds of common household items you can’t recycle curbside, like plastic food packaging, lightbulbs, clothes, Styrofoam, and more. If you sign up for a household membership by May 23, you’ll also help earn pickup of the school’s plastic film for all of the ‘25/’26 school year (when 10 new members sign up).
Visit https://get.ridwell.com/lin-howe for more information—and make sure you sign up through that page so your membership counts toward rewards for the school!
