September Edition
Our Mission
At Hopkins Elementary School we are collaboratively helping children achieve their personal best while increasing student achievement.
Our Vision
At Hopkins Elementary School we are working together to cultivate learners, empower families, and strengthen communities.
From the Principal's Desk
Hopkins Families,
Thank you all for your engagement during our start of the year! Your children are so excited and we want to help them learn each and every day! Take a look at the GCPS Blueprint for the Future below! Our district is focused on supporting EACH and EVERY child! We welcome your feedback as our school implements our Local School Plan for Improvement (LSPI). Join us during our school council meetings this year!
GCPS is also focusing on addressing each child's learning, so your children have been taking beginning of year assessments for reading and mathematics so we can better identify their remediation and enrichment needs! Additionally, your children in grades 3-5 will take social emotional learning screeners to help us find out what they need from our school to help them have a positive experience!
Please send your children to school daily and provide doctor's notes for when they have to be out. Each day is important to be at school!
Proud to be YOUR Principal,
Gabriel Zaragoza

HOPKINS SCHOOL COUNCIL:
The A+ Education Reform Act of 2000 established school councils in Georgia to bring communities and schools closer together in a spirit of cooperation to achieve the following: solve difficult education problems, improve academic achievement, provide support for teachers and administrators, and bring parents into the school-based decision-making process. In short, School Councils provide advice, recommendations, and assistance to principals and local boards of education. Hopkins school council meets four times a year.

Common Formative Assessments in GCPS
Throughout the school year, teachers use formative assessments as “check-ins” on student learning. The information allows teachers to know which standards students have mastered and which standards need additional teaching. Following these check-ins, teachers will provide additional opportunities for learning through small group instruction prior to the summative assessment. The district Common Formative Assessments (CFAs) are a category in the grade book at 5% for 1st-5th, however, this grade may be adjusted throughout the semester as students master standards.
