Support Needed: Senior Program Partnership
We are excited to announce a special opportunity to partner with senior citizens from our community for the 2024 "Senior Project" at Hamburg School. This project pairs middle school students with seniors to learn about life through the experiences of older generations. The theme for this year's project is "Your Hometown."
Students will interview seniors and work closely with them to create a biography based on their life and memories of their hometown. The final biographies will be compiled into a book, which will be presented to the seniors at a special event in May.
How It Works:
- Seniors will be invited to visit the school three times: in early November, March, and May;
- The program will run from 9:00 AM - 10:30 AM at each meeting;
- Breakfast will be served;
- Seniors are encouraged to bring childhood photos to share with the students. These photos will be scanned and promptly returned;
- Students will write a biography based on their interactions with the seniors and their stories.
- The completed biographies will be presented to the seniors during the May meeting.
This is a wonderful way for our students to learn from the experiences of older generations, and we believe this will be a meaningful and rewarding experience for both the students and seniors.
If you or someone you know would like to participate in the Senior Program, please contact the main office (973-827-7570) to sign up or learn more. We look forward to learning from your life stories and sharing them with our students!

Background Information and Moving Forward
In 2023 the Hamburg School partnered with Kathleen Helawa Educational Consultants to develop a 5 year (2023-2028) Strategic Plan. A school strategic plan is a document that outlines a school's goals, objectives, and strategies for the future. It's a roadmap that helps guide the school towards achieving its goals and objectives, and it can also help schools meet the needs of their students, staff, and community. The Hamburg School's District Goals are developed based on the needs outlined in the Strategic Plan and serve as the premise of the Superintendent's annual evaluation.
