Message from the Principal
Dear ALES Families,
Get ready! The Scholastic Book Fair is coming our way (YAY!). Choosing their own books
empowers kids and inspires them on their journey to becoming lifelong readers. AND—as
always—every purchase at the Fair benefits our school.
Here’s what you need to know about the big event, which will take place from Monday,
September 30th-Friday, October 4 th during school and Thursday, October 3rd from 6-7:30pm at
the same time as our FREE PTO Ice Cream Social!
Say goodbye to cash and hello to eWallet—your child’s digital payment account. Before the
Fair, set up eWallet for worry-free, cash-free purchases. Anyone can contribute! Share each
child’s eWallet so friends and family can add funds and give your kids more books to enjoy.
If you can’t make it to the Fair, then shop at our school’s Book Fair online. All orders ship
directly to your home, and shipping is free for book orders over $25. Every online purchase will
also benefit our school. If you pre-order a copy of the the new Diary of a Wimpy Kid- Hot
Mess, your whole book order will ship to your home for FREE!!
Visit our Book Fair homepage to learn more and get started with eWallet and online shopping:

If you are able to volunteer during the school day to help with the Book Fair, please
contact Mrs. Masching in the Media Center with your availability, 847-532-7554 or
anita.masching@d300.org. We are happy to have your help from 8-10am, 10-12 or 12:30-
2pm. It’s a GREAT opportunity to share the LOVE OF READING with our students!!
The countdown to more Bookjoy is on! Catch you at the Fair!
Happy reading,
Mrs. Marilynn Jankovich (Smith)

Attendance Matters!
It is more difficult for children to learn to read and to gain other foundational academic skills when they miss many school days. Students who are chronically absent in preschool, kindergarten, and first grade are much less likely to read at grade level by third grade and are more likely to have poor attendance in later grades.
A number of classrooms were caught with their Den Full this Week! Just a few are lighted above. We're so excited that our Lions are showing their Pride by having Full Dens! We can't wait to highlight more classrooms!
