Ellicott December Update
2024
A Message From Your Principals ππ
Dear Ellicott Families,
It's hard to believe December is here! It feels like just yesterday we were welcoming students back to school, and now, here we are, in the final stretch before winter break. Thank you for staying connected and for taking a few minutes to read this update!
As we head into the holidays, we know that this time of year can be a little chaotic. With a 2 week break right around the corner, it is crucial to maintain a routine for regular school attendance and avoid taking extra time off in the days leading to the break.
Together, it is important we make school attendance a priority:
- Talk about the importance of showing up to school on time, every day.
- Help your child maintain daily routines, such as finishing nightly assignments and getting a good night's sleep.
- Try not to schedule non-urgent related appointments during the school day.
- Contact our School Nurse if you are unsure whether your child is well enough to attend school.
- Monitor your child's academic progress and seek help when necessary.
- Check on your child's attendance regularly to be sure tardy, early dismissals and absences are not adding up.
Frequent absences or a refusal to go to school can be a sign that a student is losing interest, struggling with school work, is dealing with a difficult situation, or needs a connection. If your family or your child needs support, please reach out to us.
Here are a few important reminders as we approach the end of the year:
- Winter Break: Our school will be closed from Monday, December 23rd through Friday, January 3rd. We hope this time will give families a chance to recharge and enjoy each otherβs company. Whether you're reading a book, playing a game, or cozying up to a good movie, we hope it's quality time for all.
- Attendance: As we approach the holiday season, we encourage families to stay on top of school routines as much as possible. We know travel plans and family gatherings are important, but attendance remains key for student success! Please communicate with us if you know your child will be missing any days.
- Spreading Cheer: While the holiday season is a time for joy, itβs also a time to be mindful of others. Weβve been talking with students about spreading kindness, and we encourage you to join us by doing the same. Whether itβs helping a neighbor, offering a smile to someone who might be struggling, or simply finding moments of peace amid the rush, every act of kindness counts.
Looking ahead to 2025, weβre excited for all the adventures the new year will bring. Until then, from our hearts to yours, thank you for your continued support, your partnership, and for sharing your incredible children with us every day!
Wishing you joy and togetherness this season!
Diana and Alecia

Safe Snack Reminder as we Approach the Holiday Season βπ
OPCSD has been working to put together a document of snacks that are safe for schools. This includes what snacks are free from the top 9 allergens, as well as where the products can be purchased. Your child's classroom teacher can let you know what allergens their room should be aware of. This document can help support snacks in the rooms that are safe for all.
