Greetings MCP: Lola Rowe North Families,

Thank you for calling or emailing your questions yesterday.

Ms. WIlliamson asked a question that our K5 families may have: "When do K5 scholars start?" All scholars in K5 - 8th Grade start school on Wednesday, August 23, 2023. Only our K4 scholars have staggered start dates. If you are the parent of a K4 scholar, be sure to read the details in the August Academy section of this newsletter.

Ms. Reed asked two questions that many middle school families may have: "Does the new middle school uniform policy start next Wednesday or should they just wear the red shirts?" To allow families time to purchase the new uniform attire, the new policy will go into effect on Wednesday, September 6th, 2023. Middle School scholars can wear their red polo on the first day of school.

MCP: Lola Rowe North will contract with the YMCA to provide after school care for families who need child care between 3:30 pm and 6:00 pm during the 2023-2024 school year. Join us for our Back to School Open House on Monday, August 21, 2023 from 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm.

During Open House you will have the opportunity to:

• Visit your scholar's classroom
• Meet your scholar's teaching team, the specials teachers, the support team and the leadership team
• Drop off school supplies
• Participate in an Information & Frequently Asked Questions Session at 3:30 pm or 4:30 pm

We are getting ready to roll out the red carpet on 14th Street to welcome our scholars on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at 7:30 am!! Please take most of your First Day of School pictures before leaving home. We will take photos and/or videos to share with families throughout the day.

This will be the first day of carline on 14th Street.

Please remember:

• Your scholar should be prepared to exit the car's passenger side when you pull up to the school entrance on 14th Street.
• Once your scholar exits the car, drive forward so the carline flow is not stalled.
• Refrain from parking or getting out of the car during carline.

Milwaukee College Prep is partnering with Novir, a local preventative healthcare company, to host a childhood vaccination clinic to prepare for the upcoming school year! By providing our services at Milwaukee College Prep, you can skip the doctor's office and conveniently receive your immunizations at your school.

This survey will gauge interest in which vaccinations to offer and what time frame would work best for the Milwaukee College Prep community.

If you or anyone in your household are interested in receiving vaccinations at the onsite clinic:

7:30 am - 7:50 am Morning Arrival on 14th Street

7:30 am – 7:50 am Breakfast served

3:10 pm - 3:30 pm Dismissal for grades K4 – 8th on 14th Street

3:30 pm - 5:30 pm Y Camp

Uniform Policy

Elementary Uniform Policy: Grades K4 - 4th

Monday - Friday: MCP Red Polo/Fleece, Navy Blue Pants, Belt (1st - 4th), Tennis Shoes

Middle School Uniform Policy: Grades 5th -8th

Monday and Wednesday: NEW MIDDLE SCHOOL UNIFORM POLICY

• Navy MCP Vest: All scholars are required to wear a Navy MCP Vest as part of their uniform.
• White Oxford Shirt: Scholars must obtain a white oxford shirt to wear tucked under their Navy Blue MCP Vest. This will be a mandatory component of the uniform.
• Bottoms: Scholars can choose between khaki-colored or navy blue khaki pants as part of their uniform. Female scholars will be able to wear skirts the same color as well.
• Belts: Scholars will be required to wear a solid colored belt with their bottoms. We ask that belts do not have extremely large belt buckles and are not bejeweled or bedazzled.
• Ties and Ascots: Boys are required to wear a tie, while girls are required to wear an ascot as an accessory. Scholars MUST wear this specific tie.
• Shoes: Scholars will follow our original shoe requirements (see handbook) and are able to wear dress shoes or a pair of closed-toed tennis shoes.
• Special Black Vest and Tie: Scholars who have obtained black shirts will be eligible to obtain a black vest and a special tie to showcase their black shirt status.

Tuesday, Thursday and Friday: MCP Red Polo/Fleece, Navy Blue or Khaki Pants, Belt, Tennis Shoes

Please join us for K4 Open House on Thursday, August 17th from 4:00pm-6:00pm. This is an opportunity for parents and scholars to come and meet their classroom teachers, tour the classroom and meet other scholars in the classroom. This event is a great way to build connections with the MCP family before the first day of school. In the past we witnessed positive results for our K4 babies and meeting their classroom teachers before the first day of school. If you are a K4 family joining the MCP: Lola Rowe North Family for the 23-24 school year please join us on Thursday, August 17th from 4:00pm-6:00pm for the K4 Open House!!

We are so excited for your child to begin school at Milwaukee College Prep as a K4 scholar! Just a reminder, we will start the year off with our K4 August Academy on August 23, 2023. Our teaching staff is committed to ensuring your child’s success on the road to college and beyond. One of the most important steps on their Milwaukee College Prep journey is to acclimate themselves to four-year-old kindergarten routines and procedures.

August Academy will be two fun days of meeting their teachers, making new friends, and learning the daily classroom expectations. MCP has found that providing this transition period for our four-year-olds can ensure a very productive start to the year. This also offers smaller class sizes for those two days and more staff to ensure that every child is successful. Below is the schedule of attendance by the last name:

• Tuesday, August 29th

August Academy will have normal school day hours, 7:30 am - 3:10 pm. A snack and hot lunch will be provided, and all scholars will be in full uniform. As much as we love to have our parents visiting and interacting with our school family, in an effort to build independence in each child we ask that you refrain from staying in your child’s classroom during instruction.

Just be there! It is free and it will be AMAZING!!!

MYT is also looking for students to take on leadership positions as part of their production team. Students can work on costumes, props, sets, lights, sound, stage management, content creating or directing. Registration for the production team closes on August 31, 2023.
