CHS Newsletter: Holiday Edition!
December 20, 2024
"The Holidays are a reminder that life is meant to be lived, experiences are meant to be cherished, and memories are meant to be made"
Letter from the Principal
Dear Corbett Families and Students,
The high school staff would like to wish you a relaxing and joyful holiday break. Students finished up December with a spirit week that included a 4x4 basketball tournament in which the two teacher teams did not make the finals, but they were clearly a crowd favorite. Student leadership is planning the Winter Formal for January 17th, at Camp Angelos. Students wishing to bring a guest can pick up a guest pass from me, and please note that electronic copies will not be accepted.
The school board has approved the financial decision to implement 6 furlough days for the district, which means that the end of the school year will be 6 days earlier. While the new calendar has not been approved and adopted, we are planning on moving graduation to Monday, June 2nd. I recognize the hardship that changing calendars can be for families, but this was an unavoidable shift due to June 5th becoming a furlough day. Seniors last day will be Tuesday, May 27th. We will communicate other calendar changes at the January school board meeting.
We previously communicated that the instructor for Mrs. Strine’s 7th and 8th period English classes would be changing to Mrs. Angela Davis after winter break. This change will be delayed until February, as Mrs. Davis will be on family medical leave for at least the month of January. Mrs. Strine will continue as the classroom teacher until Mrs. Davis returns. We appreciate your understanding.
The past couple of months have been very challenging for our district as we have navigated through this financial crisis. What has been encouraging is seeing how much our community of parents, staff, and students care about our school. I am grateful for your support.

Track and Field Winter Workouts!
Athletes not participating in a winter sport who might be interested in Track and Field, now is the time to make sure you’ll be ready when the season officially starts on March 3rd! For the foreseeable future, the Cards will train from 4:00-5:00pm on Mondays and Thursdays. The group will primarily be in the weight room, but will head outside as weather allows. Some of the training will be discipline specific, but the majority of training will be generalized to lay a strong foundation for the upcoming season.
These trainings are not mandatory and are open to all athletes regardless of whether they have already committed to Track and Field or are still unsure. Spread the word to friends and other athletes who are considering joining Cardinal Track and Field. If you have questions, please reach out to Mrs. Davis or Mr. Rondema!

Leadership Leads CHS in End of Year Celebrations
Ms. Ducey and her Leadership Students wrapped up 2024 with a host of events and celebrations. They kicked off our last week of school with a fun-filled end of year assembly - with a visit from Corbett's very own Christmas Chicken!, lead us in a week of winter-themed outfits for Spirit Week (CHS Staff even joined in with their very own Pajama Day!), and ended with a 4v4 Basketball Tournament.
What an exciting way to end 2024 - Can't wait to see what our Leadership Students have in store in the coming months!
Corbett's Holiday Market a Success!
💝 A HUGE thank you to the Corbett Community for coming together to help make our first Holiday Market a success!
🎁 This year, we opted to host a holiday shopping experience in lieu of previous Snowflake Walls and Adopt-A-Family traditions. With all of the donations and support we were able to serve over 15 families at this year's Holiday Market! Each family received several boxes of food and were able to "shop" for clothing, shoes & essential items. Nearly 50 children were able to receive gifts this holiday season!!!
A special thanks to Becky Young (Corbett GS teacher) for coordinating our annual Canned Goods & Essential Drive, and the Corbett Fire Department for supporting 2 of our families with their annual Christmas Chicken tradition! Another big THANK YOU to the staff at The Grange for their significant donation of food and gifts - we couldn't have done it without you!
With Love & Gratitude this Holiday Season,
The SBMH Team
