A Message From Mrs. Acosta
Hart Families,
It is hard to believe when we come back on Tuesday that we are officially in the month of April. The time is really flying by and I could not be more proud of the work that is happening at Hart. This week we had a great book fair and are so appreciative to all the parents who volunteered to help make it such a great success. I also want to thank Ms. Dawson, who kept it open two nights this week for our families. We hosted our Kinder Sneak Peak on Tuesday evening and had some special guests attend, making it a little extra special for our incoming Kindergartners. I am so thankful for so many of our Hart staff who volunteered their time to make this night a great experience for our families.
Our 4th grade students put on a fabulous "Texas" sized performance Friday morning. Making this morning extra special, we were honored to recognize Ms. Hebert, music teacher, as the Hart Elementary recipient for the 2023-2024 Teacher of the Year. This recognition is voted on by Hart staff and we are so thankful for the work Ms. Hebert does to make not only the Hart music program extraordinary, but for the ways she positively impacts the campus.
The next two months are filled with a lot of events including the Solar Eclipse viewing, STAAR testing for 3rd and 4th grade, along with the EOY events. We will be sending out dates and times for EOY events soon so you can mark your calendars. The Solar Eclipse viewing is Monday, April 8th. So we can prepare for all of our students, we ask that you please send back your child's permission form and if you are picking up your child that day, we ask you still send back the form, while checking the no box. Please remember all Lovejoy ISD campuses will be closed to all visitors from 12:00-2:00 pm on this day. If you are picking up your child, please do so between 10:30-12:00 pm on this day. Please understand that the only eclipse glasses students will be permitted to wear during the viewing if remaining on campus are the ones provided by the district. This information is included in the district permission form along with the parent FAQ.
On April 9th and 10th, the school will be closed to all visitors, including lunch, as our 3rd and 4th graders will be taking the Reading STAAR these two days. Thank you for understanding.
I am looking forward to this weekend as we get to have some family time with my 2 year old nephew and 7 year old niece. We selfishly love snagging them for a little bit and spoiling them; it gives us excuses to do the fun things that are not perceived as "cool" anymore to a 15 and 16 year old. We also like this time with them because it gets my sons out from the depths of their rooms and away from their gaming. The weather looks to be nice and warm this weekend. I hope everyone enjoys the long weekend and that the Easter Bunny leaves some awesome treats for our Little Leopards. I know the Easter Bunny still makes appearances at the Acosta household. In fact, my 16 year old asked me today, "Hey ma. Are we still having an Easter egg hunt on Sunday?" My response was jokingly, "maybe," to which I received a pout face. I love the fact my boys still are young at heart and tell me that as long as they are living in the house, the Easter Bunny delivers an egg hunt. Have a great weekend and see everyone back on Tuesday.

Solar Eclipse
On April 8th, the DFW Metroplex will be in the path of totality for a once-in-a-lifetime solar eclipse. Lovejoy ISD is excited to share this celestial opportunity with our students and staff!
Weather permitting, students in kindergarten through high school will be allowed the opportunity to go outside to investigate the phenomena during totality. Because looking directly at the Sun is unsafe, Lovejoy students and staff will be provided certified ISO 12312-2 eclipse glasses. Students will be required to wear the glasses provided at all times except when given teacher permission to remove them during totality. Solar Eclipse permission slips will be sent home by your campus. If you would like your student(s) to participate in the outdoor activities, please complete the permission slip and return it by April 2nd." Visiting Hart Elementary
In a continued effort to support our safety and security posture at the front entrance doors at each campus, all visitors are required to show ID prior to entering our facilities. The front office staff member will continue to ask each visitor what their intended business is at the campus, and visitors will present their ID to the camera intercom system prior to entry. Once the visitor ID is verified, the front office staff member will then allow entry. Note: Visitors should keep their ID in hand, as they will have to use it to sign into Raptor upon entry.
Attendance Update
Attendance continues to be a top priority for Lovejoy ISD. It should come as no surprise that attendance has a direct relationship with student learning. Additionally, public school funding is provided by the State of Texas based on each district's average daily attendance (ADA).
Lovejoy has developed an Attendance Task Force consisting of staff, parents, and students to formulate ideas about how to positively impact ADA in our district. One suggestion is to update the community via weekly principal communication on the number of absences each campus has accrued YTD along with the budgetary impact of those absences. This information can be found below:

A Note from Nurse Tami
Hello, Hart families! We're still seeing many cases of Fifth Disease on campus.
Fifth disease is a mild illness that starts with cold-like symptoms (this is when it is most contagious), normally there is not a high fever. After the cold-like symptoms have subsided, a rash can develop on the cheeks, the trunk of the body, and extremities. There may also be joint pain. This can last for about 1-3 weeks. Fifth disease is caused by a virus and will go away on its own. Medications are not typically needed to treat it, and it usually doesn't cause any major problems. The main concern is when somebody is pregnant or immunocompromised and exposed to Fifth Disease. In that case, please consult your doctor.
Per policy, we do NOT exclude students for Fifth disease unless there is a fever. Once students develop the rash, they are less likely to be contagious.
