Principals' Message
Dear RLC Families,
As we return from school delays, closures and end of quarter break - We would like to take a moment to emphasize the importance of regular school attendance and timely arrival. Currently, our school has a chronic absenteeism rate of 15.2%, meaning that over 118 students are identified as chronically absent according to the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) guidelines. Chronic absenteeism—defined as missing 10% or more of school days—can significantly impact student learning, social connections, and our school's overall accreditation. We strongly encourage all families to prioritize on-time arrival and regular attendance. Consistent participation in school helps ensure that students stay on track academically and socially, building a foundation for their success.
We are excited to invite you to two upcoming events at RLC this month:
- STEM Night: February 7 from 6-8 PM
- PTO Winter Bingo Event: February 21 from 6-8 PM.
These events are wonderful opportunities for our community to come together, and we look forward to seeing our Coyotes there!
Additionally, thank you to those who shared snow day pictures. We are excited to feature them on the MoShow! Thank you for your continued support and commitment to your Coyote's education.
Respectfully,
Uzma Askari, Principal
Ryan Mouw, Assistant Principal
Jennifer Hedges, Dean

Dominion Energy - Golden to Mars Transmission Infrastructure Project
As a part of Dominion Energy’s multi-year project to expand the electrical grid infrastructure in Loudoun County, staff is providing an update on the Golden to Mars project, which currently has five potential routes under consideration – including some that will impact the Rock Ridge High School/ Rosa Lee Carter Elementary School campus and surrounding neighborhoods.
At the January 22, 2025 Board of Supervisors meeting, after evaluating the potential community and environmental impacts of each proposed alignment, the Board of Supervisors identified the Route 4/Blue Line as its preferred alignment route; the Route 3/Green Line was the second preferred alignment route. The Board of Supervisors also advocates that the ultimately selected transmission line be buried within 500 feet of any residence or public school it passes. As currently proposed, Route 4/Blue Line and Route 3/Green Line have some physical and/or visual impact on the LCPS campus.
The School Board will be reviewing information on the Golden to Mars transmission line project in the coming weeks. Should you wish to provide comment to the Board, emails sent to lcpsplan@lcps.org will be forwarded to all School Board members and the Superintendent.

Drop off items at RLC
As we continue to ensure a smooth and efficient start to the school day, we kindly ask that students have their lunch packed and all other items ready in the morning. If a lunch, water bottle or snack needs to be dropped off during the day, please leave it on the cart in the front office. It will be delivered to the student directly.
Please note that students do not need to leave the classroom to retrieve their items. Any items dropped off after 8:00 AM will be delivered to students in a timely manner. We kindly ask that families make every effort to pack all necessary items with their child before arriving at school to help minimize disruptions to the school day. Your cooperation and assistance in this matter are greatly appreciated!
