Principal Message - Kanika A. Burks
Good Afternoon MCP: Lola Rowe North Families,
We turned our campus BLUE on Monday to kick of Anti-Bullying Week. During Morning Assembly, the scholars identified specific lines of the Declaration of Excellence that they could refer to during this week and beyond while focusing on exemplifying good character. When scholars exemplified good character they could earn a necklace of beads from staff members throughout the day. Check out the photos above to see the scholars who earned beads!!! All scholars who earned beads were invited to the cafeteria for the Ultimate Rock Paper Scissors Challenge! Congratulations to The Howard University's Jamarion B., class of 2028, for winning the Ultimate Rock Paper Scissors Challenge and for exemplifying good character!! Jamarion is pictured below with all of beads earned by our amazing scholars throughout the day!!! Way to go Jamarion!!

THE HARSH REALITY OF SOCIAL MEDIA
Earlier this month, we were made aware of an incident where an online predator propositioned an MCP scholar for inappropriate photos in exchange for money via Instagram. This incident occurred outside of school hours.
There was a time when strangers were people we encountered outside of our homes; however, the digital age has opened our children to an online environment of strangers we may never know. I encourage you to remain vigilant in monitoring your scholar’s social media accounts on all devices they have access to. This includes, but is not limited to, cellphones, tablets, iPads, video games, SmartTVs, Apple Watches, etc. Talking with your scholars about not communicating with people they do not know on social media is also imperative. Please remind them not to share personal information about themselves with anyone in their household, their extended family, and/or their friends.
In order to better educate our scholars and families, MCP will be taking the following actions;
MCP Staff will be educated on how to best support scholars and families if online predator experiences are reported.
An online safety lesson will be developed and implemented with 3rd through 8th-grade scholars.
MCP will plan and hold a parent education night focusing on social media and online safety.
Below are resources that can be utilized to monitor your scholar’s use of technology.
