Belle Aire Curriculum Night
We will be hosting our curriculum night next Tuesday, August 27, and it's an adults-only event. This night is a great opportunity to visit your child's classroom, get some highlights of what's to come throughout the year and learn how students will interact within the content areas. Routines continue to be practiced, and you'll learn about some of those as well.
Our evening will be broken into three different segments to provide a couple of options that fit your schedules. We would love to see you at this event, so please join us if you're able. It will also give you another chance to meet this year's teacher, get a feel for the caring classroom community and start getting to know other families in the same room.
6:00- 6:25 p.m. -- K-2 Classroom Sessions
6:30- 6:55 p.m. -- K-6 Classroom Sessions
7:00- 7:25 p.m. -- 3-6 Classroom Sessions
Fall Benchmark Assessments
Our fall benchmark window will open on Monday, August 19. Students in our primary grades will be working through Aimsweb (fluency) throughout the week, and MAP testing (for reading and math) will be assessed on the following dates:
KH: 8/28
KO: 8/28
1S: 8/28
1W: 8/28
2L: 8/28
2S: 8/28
3F: 8/28
4C: 8/29
4L: 8/29
5DE: 8/29
5DO: 8/29
6B: 8/29
6M: 8/29
I know our students will continue to take their time and do their best on these assessments, and it will be great to see how much growth to see how much they capture this year. A solid breakfast and words of encouragement really go far!
Belle Aire Beliefs and Practicies
As a Belle Aire team, we have been working on a document we wanted to share with families so you can better understand the ins and outs of how we promote positive behaviors and how we respond to mistakes when mistakes are made. There is a lot of information in the document, so I will break things down for you over the coming weeks.
For this week, please focus on our "School-Wide Behavior Expectations," "School-Wide Support" and "Classroom Expectations and Support" sections. From last week, you should be able to see how Board policy translates to the school and into individual classrooms.
As for the school-wide support section, I have been working with individual classrooms on safety and overall be respectful, be responsible, be safe expectations. In all honesty, the students did the explaining of the topics rather than me presenting to them. How reassuring! We will be holding our first, all-school meeting on August 30. That meeting will be a check-in meeting to discuss classroom challenges, all-school rewards, individual recognition, etc. We are so excited for the great things that lie ahead for us!
You can find out more about this in the "School-Wide" Support section of the linked document.
Instrumental Music
The District 58 Instrumental Music teachers are excited to launch a new school year in BAND and ORCHESTRA and begin making music together again soon! We look forward to seeing returning students and also are thrilled to continue our work with the over 300 beginner instrumentalists who started their musical journey during our summer jumpstart program!
In-school lessons will be starting at each elementary school the week of Sep. 3rd. Once we have established this routine, students will also participate in weekly after-school rehearsals to prepare for their concerts! Please watch for an email from your student’s orchestra or band teacher with details about lesson and rehearsal schedules. Click here to meet your band and orchestra teachers - we look forward to seeing you soon!
District 58's Family Handbook
Families received and signed off on District 58's Family Handbook during registration last winter. As a new school year begins, we encourage families to carefully review the handbook again with their child(ren), as it offers an overview of the District’s policies, procedures, resources and student expectations.
2024-25 District 58 Family Handbook
2024-25 Manual Familias del Distrito 58
Please note: we updated the handbook this month to reflect recent policy updates and other minor updates. We added an addendum to the last page that outlines all recent updates.
