Monk Fryston Newsletter 28.3.25
The school target for next week is;
Attendance
Our school attendance last week was 96.9%, which is very close to our target. Last week, we had our first day with 100% attendance. Thank you for supporting us.
Pupils who arrive after 9am will be marked as 'late'. The registers close at 9:10am, and in line with our policy any children arriving after this time will be classed as 'unauthorised absence'.
Collective Worship Value.
Big Walk And Wheel
Easter Egg Raffle - draw taking place 1.4.25.
The Elmet Lions has kindly donated a giant Easter egg to our school, which we are raffling off for school funds. If your child would like to purchase a number, these cost £2 and can be bought through ParentPay where they will be randomly allocated, or specific numbers can be purchased by visiting the office. The draw will be made at the Easter lunch on 1st April.
Donate old bras to support cancer research.
We have received a plea to families to donate their old/unwanted bras in order to support cancer research. There is a specific recycling programme for bras that raises money for research into breast cancer. 1 kilo of bras = £1 towards breast cancer research https://www.againstbreastcancer.org.uk/recycling/bra-recycling If you have any spares lurking in the back of drawers in the homes of Monk Fryston etc, please bring them into school and we will arrange for them to be taken to the Community shop in Knottingley.
Ms Howard is leaving us.
Ms Howard has secured a new role outside education and, sadly, will leave us in May. She has been a valued member of our team and we will all miss her. Governors are recruiting a Teaching Assistant and details can be found here https://mynewterm.com/jobs/145778/EDV-2025-MFCEPS-33670.
Can you help us on Wednesday please?
We are planning to move topsoil onto the field next Wednesday. Thank you to those parents who have volunteered to help. If you are able to give any time to support us during Wednesday please let us know – you will be very welcome!
Online Safety - Emojis.
We shared some online safety information with you last week. Today, we have attached a glossary of emojis that you might find helpful.
Mrs Starr absent.
Unfortunately, Mrs Starr remains away from school due to illness and may not return before Easter. If you have any SEN questions or concerns in this time please direct them to Mr Weights.
STARMAT Vacancy.
The STAR MAT is looking to recruit organised individuals to support our school Local Governing Bodies with clerking and general administration. Flexible, term-time hours, primarily evenings, perfect for fitting around other commitments. Manage your own workload from home, attending approx. 6 meetings per school per year plus training and support meetings. Full training provided. To find out more about this rewarding role supporting the MAT’s schools and to apply, see

Trips and the pay it forward scheme.
The planned trip to William’s Den for Reception Class was going to be cancelled due to insufficient contributions, but we have been able to cover the shortfall from the generous donations from parents who have chosen to ‘pay it forward’ on ParentPay. Thank you for supporting us with this.

Things that may be of interest to you -
Would you like your children to try a new sport? From May we will be running the national All Stars Cricket (age 5-8) and Dynamos Cricket (age 8-11) designed by the English Cricket Board. The 8 weeks of fun filled action costs £50. Dynamos will start on Fri 9th May at 18:30 and All Stars from Friday 9 th May at 18:00. Booking is open now via allstarscricket.co.uk or dynamoscricket.co.uk.
We also have U9, U11, U13 and U15 teams in the York & District Junior League. We have a fantastic mix of girls and boys playing in exciting, engaging and safe games with fully trained, DBS certified coaches. Cricket is an excellent all-round sport and there truly is something for everyone across fielding, batting and bowling. Don’t worry if you’ve never played before; everyone is welcome and skills coaching is given at every level. Players are rotated equally and there are many opportunities for development but above all, it’s about enjoying the game. The U9 to U13 teams also practice on Friday nights, so if you have children across a range of ages, why not bring everyone down.
Online Suggestions Box.
We have set up an online suggestions box. Scan this QR code if you want to give feedback on our school (non-urgent enquiries only please). The QR code is also on the parent noticeboards in school. Alternatively click the link below for direct access to the form.
Free school meals for all years for pupils whose families receive financial support.
If you are in receipt of certain benefits, your child could also qualify for free school meals during all school years. To qualify you must be receiving:
Universal Credit, provided you have an annual net earned income of no more than £7,400, as assessed by earnings from up to three of your most recent assessment periods (£616.67 per month)
Income Support
Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
Support under part six of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
The guarantee element of Pension Credit
Child Tax Credit, provided you are also not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual household gross income that does not exceed £16,190 (as assessed by HMRC)
Working Tax Credit run-on, paid for four weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
Please note that contributions-based benefits, including contribution-related Jobseekers' Allowance do not entitle you to claim free school meals.
You will receive an instant decision on whether your application is successful. If it is, we will fully process the application in 5 working days and notify the school. Once the school has received this your child can begin enjoying free school meals. You should continue to pay until confirmation comes through. Schools may be able to arrange reimbursement of payment made while your entitlement is being confirmed.
Free school meals claims cannot be backdated. They are awarded from the date we receive the application, once eligibility is confirmed. This is because there is a legal requirement for a request to be made, before a free school meal can be provided. If you are not entitled to free school meals, you will be notified in writing.
