Robert Gray celebrates new playground
With the entire Robert Gray Elementary student body gathered outside, teacher Mackenzie Ochoa cuts the ribbon on Friday for the new playground that was installed over the summer break. The $195,000 project was fully funded thanks to a grant from the state. Buell Recreation of Portland, Ore., designed the equipment and the district's Maintenance Department worked with the installers to ensure it would be ready for the first day of school.
The new equipment replaces original equipment that dates to the school's construction in 2002.
The students gave a round of applause to the members of the district's Maintenance crew who were able to stop by for the ribbon cutting. They were quick to note the effort involved the entire department.
Let the play begin!

Frequently Asked Question
The McCleary Decision ordered full funding for basic education, so why are schools having budget problems? The McCleary Decision was handed down in 2012, but it wasn't until 2017 that the state developed a new funding model. You can click on the photo above to start learning more about why so many school districts in our state are once again struggling financially.
Save the Date
