Warrior Weekly News
A Weekly Newsletter for Warrior Families and Students
October 11, 2024
Greetings Warrior Families and Friends,
As another week races to a close, I had a moment to reflect on the abundance of great things I get to witness on a daily basis. At a swim meet this week (Parent and Senior Night - always fun!) a parent thanked me for something as he was walking away. I remarked that I am blessed to be able to do what I do in serving as the principal at MHS. He acknowledged with a nod and somehow I believe he knew what I was thinking.
This moment stayed with me for longer than quick conversations usually do. I remember looking around at the swim meet (we won!!) and thinking that we are all blessed to have such an amazing opportunity to better ourselves everyday. Our kids seize that opportunity. They shined at our Fall Band Concert while performing music and preparing to perform at the Wisconsin Concert Band Association this winter (huge honor!). They shine in math classrooms learning about order of operations. They shine at Senior and Parent Night for Boys Volleyball in a big conference win. And they shine in the way they embrace each other with the 1Warrior spirit.
We are all really blessed to see so many students shine, grow, and become leaders. Please keep encouraging them to embrace the many opportunities at MHS and to strive to face challenges to become their best self.
Go, Warriors!

Think Pink Week
In honor of Breast Cancer awareness month, we are hosting “Think Pink” week from 10/20-10/26. Student Council will sell Think Pink shirts/crewnecks during lunches, and all athletic events during the week will be “Think Pink” themed. We would also like to honor members of our community that have been touched by breast cancer through our social media platforms. If you are willing to share a story of a friend or family member, please email genevieve.michels@muskegonorway.org and include a photo.
Freshman Counselor Meetings
Our school counselors have been hard at work, ensuring that every one of our freshman students had the opportunity to meet with them individually within these first weeks of school. During these meetings, our counselors learned about the student's interests and goals, reviewed current academic progress, addressed any concerns and/or questions the students may have, and provided recommendations and guidance on navigating their transition to high school as well as the journey ahead. Counselors also shared resources available to students at MHS. These conversations were personalized to meet each student's individual needs and goals as part of our Academic and Career Planning (ACP) process.
We encourage you to talk to your student and ask them questions about their school counselor meeting. We believe investing the time to engage in these one-on-one meetings is an important part of our counseling program and commitment to the well-being and academic success of our students. Our school counselors are assigned by student last name and are here to provide ongoing support throughout the next four years.
Counselors value your partnership working together toward shared goals for your student. If you have any questions or need more information about the meetings, please feel free to reach out to your student's assigned counselor.

Academic and Career Planning using Xello
Our goal in Muskego-Norway Schools is to develop academically prepared, highly engaged students with the capacity to be college, career, and community ready. Academic and Career Planning will produce responsible graduates who have the knowledge, skills, motivation, and a self-directed plan for career and lifelong success. Xello is an online program your student uses in school to help them prepare for the future. It offers a variety of activities to help students build self-knowledge, explore their options, and create achievable plans and goals.
We would like to invite you to create a parent/guardian account on Xello Family. If you haven't been invited in the past or if you haven't yet created a Xello Family account, you should have received an email today inviting you to create an account. We encourage families to review your student’s Xello account together throughout the year to begin meaningful conversations related to academic, career, and personal goals. Attached is a video introducing you to Xello Family.
Post Secondary Night at MHS
On Wednesday, November 13th, MHS will be hosting a Planning for Post-Secondary Options event. This event and information is for current juniors, seniors and their guardians. The event will begin promptly at 6:00pm in MHS’s Performing Arts Center. This is an excellent opportunity to gain insight and knowledge of different post-secondary options from four-year public and private universities, technical colleges, and military options. Guest speakers will have tables set up in the PAC lobby before and after the event to speak individually with families.
AP Exams
Standard AP Exam Registration is open as of September 2nd until November 1st, after this date there is a $10 late fee. AP (Advanced Placement) exams are optional exams that students can take for potential college credit if they receive a qualifying score. Please find more information about the registration process HERE.
Financial Aid Night
MHS is excited to host our annual Financial Aid Information Night presentation. We are pleased to welcome a Carroll University representative who will speak about the FAFSA in great detail and why it can benefit everyone to complete the FAFSA application! This opportunity will take place on November 20th at 6pm in the MHS Performing Arts Center. Please reach out to School Counselor, Mrs. Christine Knapp (christine.knapp@muskegonorway.org) with any questions!
