The healthcare industry lacks diversity and that's a problem. Diversity in healthcare goes far beyond a language barrier. It's about understanding the mindset of a patient within a larger context of culture, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, and socioeconomic realities. Our students are the best people equipped to serve their community in this capacity.

Greetings LWSH Families, Caregivers, and Scholars,

Happy February! February is Black History Month, and we have a lot of special events that celebrates African Americans and their heritage, including our Black History Celebration on Friday, February 28th. Please see the calendar section of this newsletter for more details.

On another note, all scholars have received their semester 1 report cards and Parent-Teacher Conferences to discuss your child's progress will be held on Thursday, February 6th from 12:40pm - 5:05pm at the Main Campus located at 3202 West 30th Street. This will be an early-release day for students, and they will be dismissed at 11:55am if they do a grab and go lunch; or at 12:35pm if they decide to stay for lunch. These conferences should be student led. Therefore, we ask that your scholar attends with you and brings their device to access their quarter 1 and quarter 2 work.

Lastly, I would like to share a message from our CEO Dr. Warren Morgan regarding safety protocols and resources regarding immigration:

At the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, the safety, well-being, and success of every child in our schools is our highest priority. We remain steadfast in our commitment to providing a welcoming, inclusive, and secure environment where all students can learn, grow, and thrive—regardless of their background or immigration status.

We understand that families may have concerns about law enforcement inquiries or actions on school grounds. Please know that CMSD follows clear protocols, grounded in district policy and federal and state law, to ensure that any such interactions occur in a manner that minimizes disruption to our students' education.

We are also actively reviewing and reinforcing our protocols with school leaders and our safety and security teams to ensure we remain vigilant and prepared.

CMSD is proud to serve our diverse community, and we want all families to feel safe, supported, and confident in our shared commitment to your children’s education. If you have any concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your school principal or our district leadership team.
