MATH MARVELS
6TH GRADE
Advanced students wrapped up their study of Geometry with the opportunity to show off their creative skills with a choice board project. This activity allowed students to choose how they demonstrated their understanding of the geometry topics we had been studying. To model mastery of composite area, students could choose to create comic strips, design dream houses, or create geoboard problems. Students created mobiles, Canva presentations, or board games to demonstrate mastery of surface area. For volume students demonstrated their understanding by creating towns, designing fish tanks, and packaging gifts for Grandma.
7TH GRADE
7th grade math has been studying angles and circles. All math classes went outside and formed a circle. We used yarn to measure the diameter and circumference of our circle. We saw that the diameter goes around the circle 3 full times plus a small amount. This helped represent why Pi is approximately 3.14. We also played "Simon Says" to angles that we made with our arms...right, straight, radius, obtuse and acute angles were all represented.
8TH GRADE
Students are currently learning about exponents and scientific notation with only the geometry unit left. They will then begin an intensive Milestones Review. Students collaborate daily while utilizing the Milestones Desmos (graphing and scientific) calculator.
PET CLUB
The police dogs came for a visit with the K-9 officers. The officers answered questions about how the dogs perform their police duties, how they are trained to do various jobs (find missing people, chase criminals, smell out drugs, etc.), how the dogs live while being active police dogs, and what happens to the dogs once they are retired. They also learned how the police can become a K-9 unit.
