Our Covington Open House will is taking place this evening!

The event begins at 6:30 P.M. and lasts until 8:00 P.M. The evening is a chance for our Covington families to see the building and meet the staff that work with your students on a daily basis. Classroom teachers will be welcoming families to their rooms which will include a presentation. Each classroom teacher will have two presentations (approximately 20 minutes)with one beginning at 6:45 P.M. and another at 7:20 P.M.

Please note a slight change -, all other staff - Encore Staff, Social Worker, Counselor, LST, MST, Resource, Title I Interventionist, Speech, and ELT - will be available to meet their classroom/office.

As one aspect of working to create a safe school environment, we have Emergency Drill plans in place and we practice those with our students throughout the school year. These Drills include Fire Drill, Tornado Drill, Lockdown Drill, and Bus Evacuation Drill. We practice these to ensure that in the case of an emergency, our students and staff are aware of what we can do to address the emergency safely.

On Thursday, September 8th, we will be practicing a Bus Evacuation Drill, Tornado Drill, Fire Drill, and a Lockdown Drill. Our staff will be talking to the students about them prior to that date and discussing the importance of being safe as well as what the expectations are of each.

Our next Parent University event will be coming up on Thursday, September 22nd. The event will focus on "Keeping Our Kids Cyber Safe" and will be held from 6:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M at Oak Lawn Hometown Middle School.

The event will feature Detective Richard Witsocki, a nationally recognized High Technology Cyber Crimes Specialist who will speak on proactive strategies, expert insight, and resources designed to empower you and combat cyber-bullying.

The Scholastic Book Fair is right around the corner. The Book Fair will be open to students on Wednesday, September 14th and Thursday, September 15th. Family can start setting up e-wallets for their children online via our Book Fair website. Families can also share the link with other family members to add funds to the e-wallet accounts. Our first Parent Advisory Group meeting of the year will be taking place on Wednesday, September 21st at 3:45 P.M.

Our Parent Advisory Group meets throughout the year to discuss topics related to school and provide input. Last year, as a group we discussed such topics as our morning drop-off procedures and family communication. As a result, we have made improvements to our drop-off by adding more crossing guards, adding visuals to assist with our drop-off lane, and adopted Seesaw as our main tool for family communication.
