Students in 10th grade will be taking the preACT this Wednesday, Nov. 6th. Please arrive between 8:15-8:30am so that we can start on time. This assessment is state mandated and is required.
The PreACT is a practice test for the ACT, designed by ACT to help students prepare for the official exam. It's a paper-and-pencil test that covers English, Math, Reading, and Science, but doesn't include an essay section. The PreACT is usually taken by sophomores and is administered by schools. It's a good way to get familiar with the ACT's question types and testing experience, but it's not recommended as a substitute for an ACT diagnostic.

K-12 Math Standards Review
The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction's K-12 Math Standards team is excited to announce the start of the review process for the current K-12 Math standards. Per the NC State Board of Education's Manual for the Review and Revision of Standards, the team is seeking feedback and input on the current standards from all stakeholders including educators, administrators, parents, students, institutions of higher education, business/industry representatives from across the state, national organizations, and other education agencies. Updates to the current K-12 Math Standards may include clarifications, additions, deletions, or replacements to the current standards. To support our stakeholders in this process two surveys are being shared. Everyone is encouraged to fill out one or both of the surveys. The first option is an overview of the K-12 Math standards asking general questions about the standards as a whole. In addition, this survey includes a question seeking input on what math skills and concepts every
North Carolina graduate should know. The second option is more detailed, allowing participants to provide specific feedback on each standard for every grade or course.
Links to both surveys are below. Again, all stakeholders are encouraged to fill out one or both surveys. Thank you for your time and input. The feedback is extremely valuable to the K-12 Math standards review process.

Construction and Access to PCSVA (3rd floor)
A lot has changed over the summer in regard to the facilities at Person High School. Much work has been completed, but much is still underway. We thank you for your patience as the construction takes place!
The main entrance of the building is not available for access to the building. Instead, visitors are asked to park in the top part of the gym-side lot, walk down the sidewalk toward the building that is lined with fence and labeled “School Entrance”. At the end of the walkway, there are doors that are serving as the entrance to PHS while the front is not accessible. PCSVA students and families will enter through the Visitors Door at the top of the breezeway to enter near the Media Center.
Parent Drop Off & Pick Up and Student Parking
For the 2024-2025 school year, students must be dropped off in front of the gymnasium and not any other building location, such as the front of the school or T-wing lot. Carline is indicated on the map below with yellow arrows. Due to construction, students will enter the building at the entrance indicated by the pink star on the map below.
Student drivers will enter and exit the student parking lot by using the Ridge Road entrance shown in red arrows on the map below.
Visitors to the building will need to park in the upper part of the gym-side lot and enter the building by the media center, indicated by the green star on the map below.
PCSVA students and families will enter through the Visitor Door at the top of the breezeway to enter near the Media Center.
PCS Gazette
Please review the PCS Gazette for district policies and procedures related to communication, inclement weather, student promotion and accountability, parent and student rights, non-discrimination rights, volunteering, the PCS Code of Conduct, dress code, release of student information, administering medication, bus safety rules and regulations, child nutrition, and more!
School Calendars
2024-2025 Calendar (English)
2024-2025 Calendar (Spanish)
Piedmont Community College Calendar
We align with the traditional school calendar with PCS; the first day for students is Tuesday, August 27, 2024. PCSVA utilizes the Google Workspace platform where teachers will instruct using both Google Meet and Google Classroom. Students enrolled in grades 9-12 also participate in courses through NC Schools of Science and Math. These courses begin on Tuesday, August 27 and courses for students who are enrolled at PCC will begin on Thursday, August 15, 2024. PCSVA courses are asynchronous on Wednesdays.
Our program is designed to focus on effectively providing a high-quality, virtual learning environment for all students and we ask that families commit to being enrolled for the entire school year. Student engagement is critical in the virtual learning environment; therefore, students will be expected to keep their cameras on during synchronous (live) instruction with their teachers and peers. Attendance will be taken based on this policy. There will also be opportunities daily for students to work asynchronously and having parent/family support is strongly encouraged.
While we are able to instruct our students virtually, all district and state-mandated assessments will need to be conducted in person onsite at our location. Assessment schedules and detailed instructions will be provided in advance of each district and state-mandated assessment for 6-12 students.
