30 Ways to Say Yay goes to Mrs. Vargas!
’m always impressed by Rachel’s genuine compassion and personable qualities she uses to treat everyone with the same respect and positive attitude. She truly cares for her students and her coworkers. Mrs. Vargas goes above and beyond to make sure her students thrive. She has contacted numerous community organizations asking for donations. Her work is never ending. She is always accessing additional ways to gather incentives for our reading students. She is also more than willing to share her skills with other committees to help them raise funds.
Mrs. Vargas volunteered to pilot two new reading curriculums this year while still teaching the current one. She works tirelessly and closely with the other reading teachers to make sure the students receive the best instruction possible.

30 Ways to Say Yay goes to Mrs. Sherman! Have you ever seen Ms. Sherman standing outside her classroom greeting her students with a smile on her face? Well, I have, and you don't want to miss it either! For the past year, I have grown to love Ms. Sherman like she was my own sister. She constantly thinks on her feet, gives wonderful advice or lending an ear to students or staff in a time of need. She has assisted many of our new staff members with road maps to avoid the monstrous hill, helping them get acclimated to our building (or with grades), and bouncing between teaching two subjects, and is a dedicated MAC team leader. I have had the pleasure to work alongside her this past year, and could not have done it without her support, encouragement, backup, or advice. Thank you, Ms. Sherman for dedicating 22 years to McMillan and being the best on the upper north side of our building.

30 Ways to Say Yay goes to Mr. Oberg! Mr. Oberg is a model teacher at McMillan. He works diligently with students to help them understand our most complex mathematical terms. As a coach, he prioritizes building relationships with students, getting parents involved, and making sure his athletes are in top-form to play. As a department leader for math, he ensures consistency with curriculum for our teachers. He's just a super-all-around guy, and we appreciate his strength at McMillan. Thank you Mr. Oberg!

- As a leader of the women's rights movement in the late 1800s, Elizabeth Cady Stanton was a firm advocate for equal rights for all. She hosted the first Women's Rights convention at Seneca Falls, New York, wrote speeches for Susan B. Anthony, and even scheduled her honeymoon around a World's Anti-Slavery convention. Like Anthony, she passed away before the 19th Amendment (which gave women the right to vote) was passed, but it could not have been passed without her advocacy.

- Eleanor Roosevelt was the longest-serving First Lady of the United States, but she did much more than simply support her husband in the presidency. Although it was a bit taboo for a First Lady to speak on such issues in the 1960s, Roosevelt was outspoken about the civil rights movement. After leaving office, she went on to become the United State's first delegate of the United Nations where she served on the UN Commission on Human Rights and helped pass the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
