A Note From the Principal
Falcon Families,
We hope our community had a wonderful Thanksgiving break. We are so grateful for the many fun moments we were able to experience together in the last month. We've highlighted a few of those moments below!
- Our One School, One Book initiative launched! Students have been hard at work reading this year's title, "The D.A.T.A. Set- March of the Mini Beasts." Join us in January at our One Book Night when we transform the school to reflect the plot of this year's story! If your student has finished the book, make sure they turn in their form. All students who do so will have their names entered into a drawing for a new bicycle donated by Westway Baptist Church.
- SOAR Squad celebrations have been so much fun! We have "pinned the feather on the turkey" and played basketball. To join, each Falcon needs to obtain signatures from their teachers to confirm that they are routinely demonstrating our core values- Safe, Ownership, Achieve, Respect. Check in with your Falcon about their progress towards joining the Squad!
- We hosted our fall Book Fair. Students were excited about all of the options and enjoyed the opportunity to self-select new books.
- Pictures with Santa was a festive way to kick off the holiday season! We hope you enjoyed the event as much as we did!
- We conducted our qualifying spelling test to determine which students will be eligible to move forward to Round 2 of the Spelling Bee. Congratulations to all who participated and to the following students who will be advancing to the next round taking place on December 13th:
Jorge Gutierrez
Anthony Hampton, Jr.
Emma Amaya
Mateo Blandon Barrera
Peter Nguyen
Preston Dover
Zory Strickland
Sofia Borrego
One area in which we need your continued support is with our student attendance. Our goal is to remain above 95% attendance for state rating purposes, and we have recently fallen just below that, with lower-than-expected attendance on the day before and after Thanksgiving Break. We would love to see all of our Falcons present throughout December and ready to resume learning on January 7th when Winter Break concludes.
Take a look at the rest of our newsletter to read about our other upcoming events. Be sure to stay informed about the great things happening on our campus by following us on Twitter (@FranconeElem) or "liking" us on Facebook. We appreciate your partnership!

Curriculum Resources
One School, One Book!
Keep reading, Falcons! Our goal is to have 200 students finish before Winter Break. Reading for just 5-10 minutes each night can be a powerful shared reading experience for your family that helps build lifelong reading habits!
Counselor's Corner
Are you interested in getting involved on our campus? We have lots of opportunities to do so! You can help us run our SOAR Store, sign up to be a part of our Mom Volunteer Program, or serve as a Watch DOG (Dads of Great Students). Our Falcons love seeing their parents on campus, and we are ready to welcome our SOAR Store volunteers right away!
Additionally, our counselors oversee our GT testing. Please see below for information on requesting GT Testing for your child.
