Jens' Gems August 2022
Moving Forward with Purpose and Passion
Dear NYSO DKG members,
The summer seems to fly by faster each year! I hope you are well and enjoying the beautiful weather. When I need a few moments of mindfulness, I often find myself outside digging in one of our gardens. Above is one picture of this year's beauty!!
This issue of Jen's Gems includes reminders about upcoming NYSO DKG events this fall including our Executive Board meeting and Seminar and Area Council Conferences. At the end of this month we are also offering two ZOOM meetings to support Chapter Treasurers and Membership Chairs.
Please spend a few minutes perusing the information to remain current in your understanding of the work and opportunities as a benefit of membership in the New York State Organization DKG.

The Executive Committee is offering two incentives to encourage members to attend our NYSO meetings. The first is the Chapter Attendance Challenge. The Chapter President with the highest number of members in attendance at the Fall Executive Board Meeting and Seminar will win free registration to attend the 2023 Convention at the Crowne Plaza Albany - The Desmond Hotel, April 28-30, 2023. First time attendees to a NYSO conference will be entered into a separate drawing to also win a free registration for the 2023 Convention.
Chapter Presidents - News You Can Use
Chapter Presidents are reminded that you serve on the NYSO Executive Board along with Past Presidents and Officers of the Executive Committee. Your attendance is required at our Executive Board meeting on Saturday morning, October 15th. The tentative agenda will be published in the September Pi Lights, our NYSO website, and will be sent out by email.
In addition, the Leadership Development Committee will present a workshop after the Executive Board meeting as a follow up to the virtual training presented in June. Please bring your questions, ideas and experiences to share. This is a great opportunity to bring along one or more of your chapter officers so that she may learn more about our Society as well!
LDC Chair, Jeanne Schenk, welcomes Chapter Presidents to contact her by email at jmos29@aol.com if you have questions at any time. The Leadership Development Committee is eager to help!
Pi Lights deadline is September 1st
Pi Lights is published four times a year to share information about our organization with NYSO members. The deadline for our next electronic issue is September 1st. Editor Kim Goldhirsch would like to feature Chapter Officer inductions in this issue. Chapters are encouraged to send their group photos (with names included) by the deadline for consideration.
Several committees have been busy this summer providing support to Chapters and members. Committee Chairs should submit an article to update or inform members about the work of their team. Scholarships, Awards, and Grants-in-Aid Chairs are asked to remind members of the many opportunities available to recognize member achievements and obtain financial support for personal and professional development.
Thank you in advance for sharing your submission with Kim at kgpilightseditor@gmail.com, including me at nysdkgpres2123@gmail.com by the deadline. Your promptness is a critical piece in the publication timeline.
