December 2023 Newsletter
Message From Mrs. LIsa Langford, Collier Principal
December is here and this year is flying by! We are feeling the holidays right around the corner. We have so many things to be grateful for from the beginning of the year.
- Our students are learning and growing each day! We have seen so much progress already in each and every one of them.
- We were given an amazing grant from Friends of the Kirk Bear Canyon Library to support our STEAM program and purchase new books for students in the library.
- We now have an amazing mural displayed on the west side of the building. We have seen so many of you at our school sponosored events already this year.
- We have been given the opportunity to provide our students 6th grade here at Collier.
We hope that in this month of December that can get very busy, that you and your family are able to rest and recharge together celebrating your family holiday traditions.
Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!! 2024 here we come!

Thank you for our Collier Mural, Allison Miller!
We LOVE our new mural! Thank you to local artist Allison Miller for this amazing work that has been added to the wall by the marquee. During OMA class students learned all about murals and made murals of their own. While the mural was being painted, students were able to take a look at the process! Thank you, Collier Community for the financial support for us to provide this beautiful addition to our school.
Collier OMA Gold Newsletter
As usual, there is a lot going on in OMA!
Last month, we were able to watch as a professional artist implemented the mural design she created for our school. Be sure to take a look at it when you are on campus. Her design was inspired by Collier students’ artwork.
We also were treated to a performance by the Tucson Symphony Orchestra’s String Quintet. On December 7, the Wind Quintet will be here to perform.
IMPORTANT UPCOMING STUDENT PERFORMANCE DATES:
Tuesday, December 12, 1:15-2:00 on stage
Kindergarten and 2nd grade dance, 1st grade musical theatre, 4th grade violins
Thursday, December 21, 9:00-9:30 on stage
Whole school Winter Concert (all music is winter themed, not holiday themed)
Family and friends are invited to attend these performances.
Don’t forget to ask your students what they are learning about in OMA, and to look for this month’s Featured Artists’ work in the main hallway – we are learning about artists who work with black as their background this month!

Collier Health Office Updates!
Welcome to Cold and Flu season! 🙁 Unfortunately, at this time of year we see an increase in cold, influenza, COVID-19, and this year we are seeing higher numbers of RSV and norovirus (vomiting and diarrhea)
Please help stop the spread of illness at school by following these simple steps:
-Keep your child home if sick. Keep your sick child home and call attendance to report the absence if he/she has fever, a bad cough, vomiting, diarrhea, or appears very sick. Students must stay home 24 hours after the last fever or bout of diarrhea/vomiting, and they should not need medication to stop these symptoms.
-Communicate! If your child is diagnosed with COVID-19, influenza A or B, or any other specific contagious illness, please let the school health office know.
-Wash hands. Stress the importance of hand washing. Click here for a video we are encouraging parents and teachers to share with students:
-Cover your cough. Encourage your children to cough and sneeze into their sleeve instead of their hand--or not covering their mouths at all!
-Mask up! If you want to protect your child and/or family members from possible germs at school or in the community, mask wearing is a good way to go. If you or your family members are not feeling 100%, protect others from your germs by masking up.
Cold weather is approaching already. Please consider donating any gently used cold weather clothing of any sizes.
-Pants
-Sweaters/Jackets (Light weight)
-Socks
-Gloves
-Shoes
-Beanies
