Superintendent's Message 9-8-23
-From The Desk of the Superintendent-
Dear ALCS families,
I hope all of you are having a great start to the school year. I already see lots of amazing things happening in our classrooms.
Our Avon Lake High School Marching Shoremen will be making special appearances at our elementary school buildings and Troy throughout the next few weeks. This is an opportunity to showcase our talented student musicians to our younger students. Thank you Josh Brunger, ALHS band director, and to all of our students for sharing the gift of music!
Monday marks the 22nd anniversary of the tragic day in our country’s history, 9/11. Our ALHS Key Club will once again be placing more than 3,000 flags in front of the high school to honor the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001. The tribute will be on display beginning Sunday at 4 p.m.
Our Avon Lake City Schools Foundation is participating in Connect to a Cause, a 12-hour online giving event in Lorain County. Help us make a difference on Sept. 21 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and consider making a donation. The Foundation provides grants and resources for our staff to enhance the educational experience in our schools for our students. Learn more, click here.
The Shoremen and Shoregal athletic teams are off to a great start. Reminder for students/families, eligibility for an athletic season is the GPA from the previous nine weeks. So for the fall season, we look at grades from this past spring. If you have any questions regarding eligibility or athletics, please contact our athletic director, Dale Krzynowek via email at Dale.Krzynowek@alcsoh.org, or call 440-933-5164.
The Food Service Department would like to thank everyone for their patience with the transition from MySchoolAccount to PaySchools Central for the new lunch portal. All of the balances have been transferred over to PaySchools. With the transition and the balances not transferring right away, we have been lenient with the purchasing of à la carte items with a negative balance. We now are asking that all accounts have a positive balance to be able to purchase à la carte items. Please know that we will never deny a student a lunch regardless of their balance. The free/reduced applications can now be done online for your convenience and an instant approval/denial status will be provided after the application is complete and signed.
Food Service is always available for questions or concerns. Please reach out to Andrea Sokolow, Food Service supervisor, via email at Andrea.Sokolow@alcsoh.org, by phone at 440-930-8215, Ext. 1522; or Julia Lopac at Julia.Lopac@alcsoh.org or by calling 440-933-5163.
Reminder our staff account email domains have changed. Email addresses now end with @alcsoh.org. Please check your spam account as some families are reporting not receiving emails from teachers, buildings, etc. My email address is now joelle.magyar@alcsoh.org. Our website is now alcsoh.org.
I look forward to seeing you at the many events happening throughout our school community, several are included below.
Thank you again for your continued support of our schools.
Please reach out with any thoughts, questions and comments. Reminder to follow me on X (Twitter) @ALCSsuper

Homecoming parade
Do you love a parade!?
The Avon Lake Homecoming Parade Committee is currently seeking participants. The parade is Saturday, Sept. 23 beginning at the high school North Lot (off Electric Blvd.). The parade starts at 10:30 a.m. sharp!! Participants will start assembling as soon as 9:15 a.m. IN NORTH LOT ONLY (more details will be sent once you sign up).
Homecoming is different things to different groups of people. Alumni of Avon Lake High School often have their reunions on Homecoming. Businesses enter the parade to show their support for the community. Civic groups enter the parade to show their community spirit.
Homecoming is a great way to build our community!
Groups can walk, have vehicles, or build floats. Your imagination is your limit.
