Principal's Message
Dear Greeley Families,
Last week, our fourth graders had a wonderful time at Snake Road. They returned home tired but full of great memories. As they prepare to wrap up their time at Greeley, we’re excited to see the class of 2025 continue to demonstrate leadership. One special tradition ahead is selecting a fourth-grade gift that will benefit Greeley students for years to come.
This week, second-grade students are looking forward to the Bike Rodeo on Wednesday. On Thursday, we are excited to welcome incoming kindergarten families to the schoolhouse to learn more about our Winnetka kindergarten program. On Friday, students will be treated to an all school performance by the Washburne Jazz and Orchestra groups. It's sure to be a busy and fun-filled week ahead!
Warmly,
Lindsay

New Information
Drop in Event to honor Ms. Montgomery
Please drop by the Greeley auditorium on May 28th between 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. to share your well wishes and say goodbye. Please spread the word to any former students and families who may want to stop by.
Greeley Gorillas
Greeley 4th graders recently visited Lincoln Park Zoo to present a check earmarked for the care of the Western Lowland Gorillas, representing the full amount of money raised through our all school change drive. They learned a lot and asked especially good questions of the gorillas' keeper. Go Gorillas!
Dogs During Dismissal
As a gentle reminder, Winnetka Village ordinance prohibits dogs on school property during school hours (8:00 AM – 4:00 PM) and during the hours of school events.
Please help us ensure a safe and orderly arrival and dismissal routine by keeping dogs across the street during arrival and dismissal.
Second Grade Bike Rodeo
Wednesday, May 21st at 4:00 PM
Greeley’s 4th annual Bike Rodeo is back! Join us on the blacktop for a fun, hands-on event teaching 2nd graders bike safety basics, featuring a simple course and safety gear check.
Hosted with Greeley PTO, Green Bay Cycles & Scout Troop 20.
Bring your bike and helmet—see you after school!
Bike Registration:
Register your child’s bike with the Winnetka Police Department by completing this form and emailing it to pdrecords@winnetka.org. A license sticker will be mailed to you.
Bike Safety Pledge:
The Winnetka Public Schools' Elementary School Bike Safety Pledge encourages safe biking habits for students, including wearing helmets, following traffic rules, staying alert, and being respectful of others. Students and parents review and sign the pledge together, and signed forms should be returned to school in exchange for a reflective sticker for the student’s bike or helmet.
Bike Safety Video:
Please watch this bike safety video and discuss/reinforce the key points with your student.
This is an optional event, but we encourage all students to participate and highly recommend parental/caregiver involvement before and during the event to help reinforce safe biking practices. Students should bring their bike (or non-motorized scooter) and a helmet to school that day or specifically to the 4:00 event. Thanks in advance to Scouts Troop 20, the Winnetka Police Department, and Green Bay Cycles for their participation in this fun event!
Reminders from Last Week
Sewer Work and Impact on Traffic
Beginning this week (the week of May 12th), there will be work on Sheridan Road from Cherry Street to Winnetka Avenue. The work will involve sewer and manhole cleaning as part of the MWRD’s Northshore Rehabilitation Project. This phase is expected to last approximately three months. The overall project spans multiple North Shore communities, including Winnetka, Kenilworth, Wilmette, and Evanston. Please note that this work will likely impact school traffic, and may impact arrival and dismissal times.
