WMS Weekly Warrior
December 12/9/2024
Good Afternoon Woodbury Middle School,
The WMS Music Concert will take place on December 18th at 6:00 PM. The music department will conduct rehearsals during I Blocks in the weeks leading up to the concert. A special thank you to Mrs. Odell and Mr. Snyder for their dedication in preparing our musicians; it promises to be a fantastic show!
Parents please check the lost and found table in front of the main office. Clothes left on the table will be donated at the end of this week.
Last Friday, in celebration of our commitment to our core values, WMS staff and students participated in a hot chocolate event accompanied by various activities. Students enjoyed an art project, along with cookies and cocoa, and engaged in physical activities in the gym. We are incredibly proud of the students who maintain their eligibility by adhering to the Warrior Way. Ninety-eight percent of the students at WMS took part in this event.
Thank you for the collaborative efforts of Mr. Michael and our counselors, Mrs. McGrath and Mrs. Rocco, in creating the first WMS Kindness Tree. The tree was decorated with ornaments crafted during counseling lessons, each sharing a kind word or an uplifting message that resonates during this time of year.
PJ Day was a big success! WMS raised $364.00 for the CT Children's Medical Center. thanks to everyone who supported this fun activity for a great cause.
As we approach the holiday season, we want to ensure that every member of our school community feels supported. To identify families who need extra assistance during this time, we invite you to share information confidentially about those facing challenges.
If you know of a family in our school community that could benefit from support during the holidays, please get in touch with our counseling department at arocco@ctreg14.org or jmcgrath@ctreg14.org. We guarantee that all information will be handled with the highest level of sensitivity and confidentiality.
This is just a reminder that conferences are being held this week, and student dismissal is at 11:55 on Tuesday and Thursday.
Have a great week,
WMS Admin
Bill Nemec, Principal
Aimee Shuhart, Interim Assistant Principal
Please make sure to review the Woodbury Middle School Student Handbook with your student regarding cell phones. Some of you may be aware that the state has issued recommendations on cell phone usage in schools. I have included the proposed language from the state below. Click the picture to access the entire document from the state.
• Middle School − The policy for middle school students should also focus on removing cell phones from the school day or classroom. Developmentally, this age group is particularly vulnerable to the negative effects of excessive personal technology use and has a difficult time controlling their impulses. Concurrently, middle school students experience increased autonomy and independence during the school day, which can lead to increased opportunity for cell phone misuse. − Possession of cell phones in this age group is likely to be viewed as a rite of passage into adulthood, so communication and application of policies that restrict use must be developed in consideration of the specific challenges of middle school students.
