Showcasing the Pride of Methacton

Welcome to our first edition of “Showcasing the Pride of Methacton” – a monthly, online series where we will focus on programs, and the contributions of our students and staff who make the Methacton School District not only our home and our school, but among the best school districts in the Commonwealth. This month, we're placing a spotlight on Methacton's Art program!

The Art program at Methacton is based upon a collective effort to shape the potential of all of our students. While the program provides for advanced course work in the visual arts that leads our graduates to pursue opportunities at some of the top art institutes and colleges, it also provides all Methacton students with an appreciation for art in a global context, and a well-rounded education.

Our passion for the arts is always on full display. As a parent, you can find the talented creations of our students lining the halls in each of our schools. However, our program is so much more than what you see. The art program from elementary through high school empowers children to communicate, represent, and express their thoughts, feelings, and perceptions of the world they live in and the future they want to lead.

While the opportunities available for our students to shine in this subject are endless, the real crowning achievement in Methacton’s Art program is its ability to create strong bonds within our school community through a shared commitment and appreciation for our students’ talents. Each school hosts an annual Art show and the high school Art students participate in various public exhibitions, including the highly-acclaimed Emerging Artists exhibit at Shannondell Art Gallery, and at Montgomery County Community College.

participate in the exhibition. 15 students overall received special

recognition for their artwork.

February 19 - March 23: 6TH ANNUAL TRI-COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL EXHIBITION & COMPETITION

March 8 - April 11: Emerging Artists Exhibit at Shannondell Art Gallery

A strong Art program, such as Methacton’s, helps close the achievement gap among the varying interests, cultures, and demographics, and allows for children to excel and be recognized. It sweetens the school experience and provides avenues for success for all students. The high school Art program exhibits the level of rigor appropriate for students seeking a career in the visual arts and for students pursuing opportunities for expression and recognition. At Arcola and Skyview, teachers focus on bringing out the best in every student. The curriculum explores traditional fine arts; such as, drawing, painting, printmaking, and sculpture. Our elementary program focuses on introducing students to aesthetics, elements of art, and principals of design while developing a child’s appreciation of art and cultivating social, emotional, and community connections.

Methacton believes that the Arts program is essential to early learning. It allows students to construct knowledge in meaningful social contexts with peers and adults. As Superintendent, I am continually amazed by the efforts of our art teachers, their work with our students, their impact on creating an inclusive climate within this district, and the ongoing recognition they bring to our school community.

I hope you enjoy this glimpse inside some of the many outstanding ways Methacton Schools support student creativity and provide unique and inspiring learning opportunities. There is so much more to come!
