May 2025
Finishing up this year and getting ready for next year!
Hello Starkey Families,
We are working on finishing up this year strong! Please make sure that you make note of the field trips and celebrations that are upcoming so you don't miss out on anything.
One of our big hurdles prior to finishing up the year is our end of the year testing. Pre K - 2nd graders are mostly finished with this already, but 3rd-5th graders really get started this week! Please help your student do the best that they can by making sure that they get a good night of sleep, eat a healthy breakfast and arrive at school on time each day and stay for the full day.
The breakdown of grade and subject area assessments are in the calendar below. We are testing students in smaller groups, throughout the weeks, to provide them with optimal testing environments. If you are wondering what specific day your child is testing on, please contact their teacher.
From my time in the classrooms, I just know that our students are really going to rock these tests and I can't wait to celebrate their scores!
As the end of the school year rapidly approaches, it is time to discuss our class list processes and policy, specifically in terms of requesting specific teachers.
We cannot accommodate individual teacher requests.
In creating class lists, we work diligently to ensure that each student is assigned a class/teacher best suited for their individual learning needs and style. We use a variety of factors including, but not limited to conduct, academics, and relationships.
The ultimate goal is to provide a learning environment that maximizes the potential of every
student.
All of our teachers are highly qualified and experienced professionals. They are dedicated to
providing the best education for all children. Regardless of specific teacher assignment, we are confident that all students have high quality instruction, support, and guidance.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
Sincerely,
Ms. Kranzel

Art Work
Pre-K is making caterpillars with beads and learning about 3D art.
K- is practicing their drawing skills by using line to create texture.
1st- is reviewing the difference between horizontal and vertical lines. They are also creating a cityscape using all the different types of lines they have been practicing since kindergarten.
2nd- is creating a castle drawing that they are going to fold and make 3D complete with a dragon invasion!
3rd- just finished their foreground, middle ground and background amphibian habitats. Next they are reviewing art vocabulary and concepts using the Kahoot! app!!
4th- is learning different clay techniques and creating textured hearts.
5th- just finished making characters out of nature objects. They are also reviewing all art terms and concepts from all grade levels and are getting ready for an short and fun Art exam in a few weeks. They are having fun competing against each other on Kahoot!
Gifted Gazette
Kindergarten, first, and second grade students love using a variety of flexible seating optionsโ surf desks, wobble stools, and floor seatsโas they take notes and explore their curiosity. By asking thoughtful questions and seeking answers, they actively engage in Gifted Goal 2: Questions, building inquiry skills and Gifted Goal 1: Knowledge, arranging their thoughts into an organized format.
This photo highlights how recently third grade collaborated using a world map to solve geography trivia, demonstrating Gifted Goal 3: Research as they gather and apply information and Gifted Goal 4: Critical Thinking to analyze clues and make thoughtful connections across global concepts.
Talented
Recently 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students enrolled in Talent Development completed coding challenges with Kubo. This cute robot encourages problem solving, logical thinking, and creativityโkey skills that empower young learners to innovate and thrive in a tech-driven world. Did you know that completing mazes boosts critical and creative thinking by challenging students to plan ahead, and solve problems? Students in grades 1 and 2 explored this lesson during their recent creativity lessons where they were encouraged to be flexible thinkers and perseverance through trial and error.

Math and Science Night
The case is officially closed ๐๏ธโ โand what a thrilling investigation it was! Look at this little scientist at work! This pre-k 3 student demonstrated her knowledge of the butterfly life cycle in Clue Room 1 during Math & Science Night by sequencing picture cards and pieces.
We had special visitors from the Pinellas County Council PTA/PTSA (PCCPTA) at our last PTA Meeting. We are thankful for our current 2024-2025 board and look forward to working with the newly elected officers for the 2025-2026 school year.
