Iredell ISD
November Newsletter
Dear Iredell ISD Family,
As November settles in and we look forward to the season of Thanksgiving, it's the perfect time to reflect on the importance of gratitude. At Iredell Independent School District, we believe that fostering a culture of gratitude can have a profound impact on our students, staff, and community as a whole.
Why Gratitude Matters: Gratitude is more than just a feeling; it's a powerful practice that can transform our outlook on life. When we express gratitude, we acknowledge the positive aspects of our lives and the contributions of those around us. This practice not only enhances our well-being but also strengthens our relationships and builds a supportive and caring community.
A Community of Gratitude: We, the faculty, staff, and administration of Iredell ISD, are deeply grateful for the unwavering support and dedication of our community and parents. Your involvement in our schools, whether through volunteering, attending events, or simply showing up for your children, makes a world of difference. You are the backbone of our district, and we appreciate your commitment to making Iredell ISD a nurturing and thriving environment for our students.
Gratitude in Action: This month, let's all make a conscious effort to practice gratitude in our daily lives. Here are a few simple ways we can all show our gratitude:
Express Appreciation: Take a moment to thank someone who has made a positive impact on your life. A simple "thank you" can go a long way.
Write It Down: Keep a gratitude journal and jot down three things you are grateful for each day. This can help shift your focus to the positive aspects of your life.
Pay It Forward: Show your gratitude by performing a random act of kindness. Whether it's helping a neighbor, donating to a cause, or simply offering a smile, your actions can inspire others to do the same.
Thank You, Iredell! As we celebrate this season of gratitude, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you. Your support and collaboration make Iredell ISD a special place where our students can learn, grow, and succeed. We are proud to serve such a caring and committed community, and we look forward to continuing our journey together.
Wishing you all a wonderful November filled with gratitude and joy!

Message from Mr. Morrowđź’¬
The October school board meeting was rather uneventful but productive. The most important highlight for our families would be an adjustment to the school calendar. Just like last December, Iredell ISD will host the Junior High UIL competition. In order to successfully host such an event, it is necessary to change December 9 from an instructional day to a teacher work day. Mark your calendars: there will be no school on December 9th as Iredell Independent School District proudly hosts the district Junior High UIL competition. We are excited to welcome participants and showcase our wonderful community, as well as our dedicated faculty, staff, volunteers, and competitors!
I am also pleased to announce some updates to our playground. We are thrilled for our elementary students have seen/will see the addition of a saucer swing, two tether ball poles, a soccer net, updated swings, new balls, and new hula hoops. This may seem like a minor detail to most of us. But, these updates are sure to enhance our students' outdoor play experience and contribute to their physical well-being and enjoyment.
Thank you for your ongoing support of Iredell ISD. We look forward to seeing our students enjoy these new additions and to a successful UIL competition in December.
Message from Mrs. Johnstonđź’¬
As we transition into November, I am reminded that November is a time of being thankful. At Iredell ISD, we are thankful for our staff, our students, and the community that we have. We are thankful for all the community members who have come together to make events happen for our students. Our elementary students enjoyed their trip to the Fire Station in October, where numerous volunteers took time to educate students on fire safety. In addition, we are thankful for the parents and community members who showed up to support our Senior Class of 2025. Our hope is that we continue to build upon our partnership with our parents and community, and help our kids be the best versions of themselves. We look forward to seeing parents and family members at our Annual Thanksgiving meal on Thursday, November 21st.

Harper Budd, a bright and compassionate 6th grader at Iredell ISD, is taking the lead on a heartwarming community service project. Inspired by the spirit of giving, Harper has organized a toy drive to benefit the children of Bosque County through the Bosque County Welfare Board.
With a heart full of kindness, Harper aims to bring joy and cheer to local children during the holiday season. She's calling on the community to join her in this noble endeavor by donating new, unwrapped toys.
How You Can Help:
- Read the Flyer: Please take a moment to review the attached flyer for complete details on drop-off locations and deadlines.
- Donate Toys: Consider donating new, unwrapped toys suitable for children of all ages.
- Spread the Word: Share this initiative with friends, family, and neighbors to maximize its impact.
Your generous contribution will make a significant difference in the lives of these children. Let's come together as a community to support Harper's mission and brighten the holiday season for those in need.
Peace Office Training (9-12th Graders)
Students in grades 9-12 recently received training on proper interaction with peace officers during traffic stops and other in-person encounters. Students learned about the following information:
- the role of law enforcement and the duties and responsibilities of peace officers;
- a person's rights concerning interactions with peace officers;
- proper behavior for civilians and peace officers during interactions;
- laws regarding questioning and detention by peace officers, including any law requiring a person to present proof of identity to a peace officer, and the consequences for a person's or officer's failure to comply with those laws; and
- how and where to file a complaint against or a compliment on behalf of a peace officer.
Thank you, Investigator David Monthey, for educating our students.
NOVEMBER FOOD DRIVE
Helping Hands food drive! Our school community is encouraged to donate non-perishable food items to support the local food pantry. The pantry is in urgent need of cereal, macaroni, and other pasta goods. Please send non-perishable items with your student to help stock the shelves. The class that collects the most food will be rewarded with a pizza and ice cream party! To further support this initiative, our National Honor Society members will be volunteering to unload food donations on November 22nd. Let's work together to make a difference in our community!
This year, daylight saving time ends Sunday, November 3rd, with clocks rolling back one hour at 2 a.m.
Mock Election
Our Government class is hosting a mock election on November 5th for all of our students and staff. The mock election helps build voting habits early and also helps our students understand the electoral process

The Importance of STAAR Interims: A Path to Success
As students gear up for the upcoming STAAR interim assessments that take place this month, it's crucial to understand their significance. These assessments serve as valuable checkpoints, providing insights into student progress and identifying areas where additional support may be needed. By taking STAAR interims seriously, students can lay a strong foundation for future success on the actual state assessment.
How STAAR Interims Benefit Students:
Identify Knowledge Gaps: STAAR interims help pinpoint areas where students may be struggling. This early identification allows for targeted interventions and additional support.
Practice Test-Taking Strategies: Taking practice tests like STAAR interims helps students familiarize themselves with the test format, question types, and time management strategies.
Boost Confidence: Success on STAAR interims can boost student confidence and motivation, leading to better performance on the actual assessment.
Prepare for the Future: The skills and knowledge acquired through STAAR interims are essential for future academic and career success.
How STAAR Interims Benefit Teachers:
Inform Instruction: STAAR interim results provide teachers with valuable data to inform their instruction and adjust their teaching strategies to meet the needs of all students.
Identify Areas for Improvement: By analyzing student performance on STAAR interims, teachers can identify areas where students may need additional support or resources.
Monitor Progress: STAAR interims allow teachers to track student progress throughout the year and make necessary adjustments to ensure students are on track for success.
Tips for Success on STAAR Interims:
Regular Study: Consistent review of classwork, homework, and notes is essential for success.
Practice Test-Taking Strategies: Familiarize yourself with the test format, question types, and time management strategies.
Seek Help When Needed: Don't hesitate to ask your teacher or classmates for help if you are struggling.
Stay Positive and Believe in Yourself: A positive mindset can go a long way in boosting confidence and performance.
By taking STAAR interims seriously and utilizing the information they provide, students can set themselves up for success on the actual state assessment and beyond.

Attendance- Every Day Counts!
Missing 10 percent or more of school days due to absence for any reason—excused, unexcused absences, and suspensions—can translate into students having difficulty learning to read by the third grade, achieving in middle school, and graduating from high school.
Please get in touch with Mrs. Sheffield or Mrs. Johnston if you have any questions regarding absences and attendance. Iredell ISD teachers encourage regular attendance, and school-wide incentives are in place to recognize students with outstanding attendance.
Our top attendance winner for the 2nd six weeks is the 11th grade class!
Ms. Hubbard was the winner for the 2nd Six Weeks Staff Member Perfect Attendance Drawing
We're excited to share that Mr. Bellows from the Bosque County Educational Coop recently visited our school to discuss the serious issue of bullying and cyberbullying with our students in grades 6-12.
Bullying can have devastating consequences, both for the victim and the bully. It's crucial that our students understand what bullying is, how to recognize it, and how to respond to it. Mr. Bellows' presentation shed light on the different forms of bullying, including physical, verbal, emotional, and cyberbullying.
A key takeaway from Mr. Bellows' visit was the importance of David's Law. This law emphasizes the need to recognize the signs of bullying and take action to prevent it. By raising awareness and empowering our students, we can create a safer and more inclusive school environment.
Parent Portal
Parent Portal is an easy-to-use web resource, available on any device with an internet connection. It allows parents and guardians to access information about their students, such as attendance, grades, assignments, schedules, progress reports and report cards. If you need assistance accessing the Portal, please contact Mrs. Sheffield at 254-364-2411.
Progress Reports:
Progress reports will be posted on the portal unless the student has a failing average. Students with a failing average will require a parent signature on their progress report.
Report Cards:
Report cards will be sent home at the end of every six weeks. Please sign and return as soon as possible. We appreciate your support.
Go Guardian
GoGuardian is a program that we utilize throughout the district to help monitor and protect our students. GoGuardian actively monitors and protects students from explicit content on the internet. GoGuardian is also used to actively monitor classrooms on Chromebooks from 3rd grade through 12th grade. The classroom monitoring allows teachers to see student Chromebooks activity in real time to help minimize distractions.
Chromebook activity can also be monitored while at home. If you have any questions regarding your child's Chromebook usage, please don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher or Mrs. Johnston.
