Faculty - Make a Difference Award
Gunter ISD was excited to recognize the following staff members at the School Board Meeting for “MAKING A DIFFERENCE” in the lives of our Tigers. The love and care they show in their profession is second to nobody! The students at each campus are lucky to have these adults as mentors and teachers.
Congratulations to:
- Whitney Keel, Elementary School
- Melanie Putnicki, Middle School
- Amy McGaughey, High School
- Mark Williams, District (Transportation and Maintenance)
We are sad to say that Mr. Williams will be retiring in December, and he will be missed greatly by the staff and the students. Mr. Williams, thank you for the way you cared about every staff member and student in the district. Your smile and kind words were the one thing we all knew we could count on when we stopped to chat with you. You are a light to many people’s darkness, and we know that you absolutely deserve the R&R you are about to jump into!
Veterans Day Program
The Veterans Day program is one of our favorite things to do all year long. Freedom is not free, and we design our program so our students will hear REAL stories of service and sacrifice. Each local Veteran who attends is individually recognized as we state their name, service, service years and a story if they are willing to share. Hearing these stories helps all those in attendance to understand what it takes to live in a country where freedom is fought for. Thank you for your service!
Thank you to Mr. Carruthers for helping us to understand what life is like in the service. The hard times, the good times, the people you meet who become life long friends, and the people who become brothers and sisters are all a portion of what makes up service life.
The Gunter Tiger Band did an outstanding job performing An American Tribute and the Branches of the Armed Forces songs. Audrey McGaughey sang the National Anthem beautifully!
The 3rd grade choir performed "We Honor You" to let the Veterans know just how much we appreciate their service.
Former GHS student, Luke Jennings, ended the ceremony so beautifully with Amazing Grace on the Bag Pipes.
The pictures taken by the district may be found here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/gLBsuUmtwEhvrmXD6

What's Cooking?
by Lauren Rogers, Child Nutrition Director
What am I thankful for? Well all of the things in my personal life, of course, my dear family and friends, a beautiful home and a job that I LOVE - with a staff that I LOVE. But, to be honest, this Thanksgiving I am truly thankful for the time off. November has been a whirlwind of excitement and hard work by your Child Nutrition staff district wide.
- We have prepared and served over 3,800 breakfasts this month and over 8,000 lunches to our beloved students and staff.
- We were honored to prepare and serve a Veteran’s Day breakfast for over 130 veterans and their family members on November 10th.
- On November 15th we prepared and served a Thanksgiving FEAST for all district personnel, over 900 students and 100 staff members.
- We have been honored to receive a generous donation of $1,200 from the “Do A Little Good Foundation” to cover all outstanding charges on student accounts. What a blessing! We Thank them so very much!
- I also have applied for and received a Local Foods Grant of $85,000, which will give us the ability to work closer with local farmers and ranchers to provide the freshest, locally grown and raised fruits, vegetables, grains and proteins. So, be on the lookout for more local items added to our menus in the near future.
Whew!!! I’m tired just saying it all out loud! With all of this said…. I wouldn’t change a thing! I could not do this wonderful and crazy job without my DEDICATED Staff of Gladis Puebla, Lindsey Burrow, Lisa Watson, Sherry Watson, Brittney Small, Michelle Clemens, Megan Harrington, Cathy Terry and Jenny Henshaw and our dedicated sub Susie Hundermark. This is the "most awesome" staff anyone could ask for; they are truly Super Heroes!
To sum it up... I’m really thankful for everything that makes this department run each and every day! Looking forward to many, many more!
Ask any faculty member or student... "What is the best day in our cafeterias?" The resounding answer will be Thanksgiving Lunch! Each cafeteria serves up the whole meal; turkey, mashed and sweet potatoes, dressing, green beans, a roll, and pumpkin pie. Check out the smiles on all the faces! Thank you to Mrs. Rogers and her team for all the hard work they put into this meal to make it special. Also thank you to the staff who jump in and help them get everything served up on time!

Thank You!
The PTO family does so much for our campuses, and we appreciate every single thing! Here are a few highlights. They can't do this without parent participation. Thank you for volunteering your time and making such wonderful donations to make our teachers feel loved.
GES PTO -Thanks to Taquito Y Mas (Gabe Gonzales) for catering such an awesome lunch spread and to the GES PTO for the small pies (and gift card) for dessert! We certainly felt blessed!
GMS PTO - Thank you to the GMS PTO and all those who donated to the great pie give-away! Every teacher and staff member at the middle school received a whole pie for Thanksgiving! Much appreciated!
GHS PTO - Thank you to the GHS PTO and all the people who donated a pie for each faculty member. This is an incredible gift, and a huge undertaking for the PTO. During the Thanksgiving Pie giveaway, the GHS PTO adopts the Administrators as well so that each employee goes home with a pie for the holidays.

GES Classroom Fun... I mean Learning :)
- Third grade students in Mrs. Foster and Mrs. Keel’s reading classes spent some time exploring folktales through the mentor text, “Cactus Soup”. Students learned the valuable lesson of pulling together in a time a need and building a community. Students brought in ingredients from home, and together created a delicious pot of cactus soup that we were able to enjoy together. By the look of those bowls, the students loved the soup!
- The 3rd grade honored our local Veterans at the district Veterans Day program with their song, "We Honor You". They also put on an entire production for the Veterans at their campus. Great job, 3rd grade!
-
First Grade Tigers Helping Tigers Project was a learning experience from the beginning to the end! It began with student’s hearing the story Maddie’s Fridge in class and ended with our first grade classrooms (through generous donations from GES families) providing meals for our community through the Love Pacs organization. Hands-on learning at its finest!
- The 4th grade Leadership Team decorated the GES Christmas Tree to bring a smile or two to everyone who entered the building during the holiday season.
Mrs. Locke's Social Studies classes wrapped up their Native Americans of Texas unit with a choice of projects. The students did an outstanding job on their dioramas, posters, and beadwork. All projects were done in the classroom, so you are looking at projects made by only the students hands!
Thankful for our KINDERGARTNERS!
We had to share a little cuteness overload right before our Thanksgiving Holiday! Our kindergartners dressed the part and had a great feast before they left for Thanksgiving break.
Jr. Gunter 4H Robotics
We love celebrating our students! Over Thanksgiving, the Gunter 4H Robotics team competed at the Erath County Robotics Showdown, and both teams placed!! Way to go, Gunter Tigers! You make us so proud!

Graduation Orders - Cap, Gown and Tassle (and other items)
Dear Senior Parents,
The senior class had a meeting with our graduation gear provider, Jostens, on Tuesday to talk about ordering Caps, Gowns, Tassels, and other Graduation Gear. Each student was given a packet and instructions on what to do next. Here are the highlights from that meeting:
1. Jostens will return to campus on 12/5/23 to accept completed order forms. Please try to have orders submitted on this date. If that is not possible, you can still submit orders through 12/31 with the same pricing. Jostens will have the majority of their Class of 2024 merchandise (t-shirts, hoodies, etc...) available on the 5th for students that have selected those items on their order forms.
2. Students can make orders online (https://www.jostens.com/apps/store/customer/1078955/Gunter-High-School/) up through 12/31 and maintain the prices that are listed on the order forms. Prices will go up after 12/31.
3. Students can submit the green order form or the white order form. Please review both forms to see what they offer. Make sure you are not ordering items twice.
4. Students that only want to purchase the cap, gown, and tassel, should select item #28 on the individual items section of the white order form. All other package options include an extra item(s) like a keychain or secondary decorative tassel in the purchase price.
You can reach out to Mr. Waggoner or Jostens with any questions.

Don't forget about the Crisis Center Drive sponsored by the high school NHS students. The drive will take place until December 8th. The Crisis Center helps find housing and then provides people who are victims of domestic violence or sexual assault with the basic household needs, and is dedicated to providing a safe haven, crisis intervention and comprehensive support services to victims of family violence and sexual assault. To make these goals a reality, the Crisis Center relies solely on donations from the community to provide a free-of-cost safe haven for victims.
Here at Gunter High School, we have had a long-standing tradition of providing a large load of donations to the crisis center, and we need your help to CONTINUE OUR TRADITION!
There are two ways you can help:
1. Click here: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/TT4UHQT1RMSA... to see the “wish list” of NEW items they need most. You can purchase it right there on Amazon.
2. Purchase a new item and deliver it to the high school. Students are collecting items in their 3rd period classes.
In the GHS classrooms...
- Students in Mrs. Nichols' Health Science classes completed their CPR certification. This is such an important thing to teach students!
- Outdoor Education began the unit on introduction to angler education today. They learned the basics of bait and tackle. Students learned how to clean ducks as well, but we spared you the pictures of that ;)
- Mrs. Loving's floral design students are always busy making arrangements for the events at our campus. They created some beautiful bouquets for senior night!
- Spanish 2 students in Miss Mercado's class learned about Dia de Los Muertos. They learned that it is a day to honor those who have passed, and that an ofrenda can be filled with many items. Their assignment was to choose a loved one, pet or celebrity and fill the page with information about them. They turned out beautifully!
- Mr. Eaton's classes were learning to calculate kinetic & gravitational potential energy by building catapults. It was fun to watch them working with the project, making adjustments, and actually getting the projectile into a bucket! Watch one group working on getting their project to work right here!

Open Auditions!
The 2023/24 High School One-Act Play will be producing "The Bad Seed" by Maxwell Anderson. You might be familiar with the movie remake of the original 1950s movie/book; if not, look it up, it's fascinating! Auditions are open to ANY GHS student in good academic standing. You do not need to be enrolled in a theatre class to participate in One Act Play. Auditions will start the week of December 4th. Students interested should contact Mrs. McGaughey ASAP for more information. No previous experience required!
One Act Play had a successful year last year, advancing to the Area round of competition... just two stops before State. This year we plan to go all the way! Come and play a role in our success. Stop by and talk to Mrs. McGaughey for more information.
Build a Monster!
One of our favorite projects to highlight! Our bigger Tigers catering to our little Tigers...
Students in Mrs. McGaughey’s MS & HS Tech Theatre classes delivered their handmade Monster Plushies to our GES Pre-K classes on Halloween. This project is the culmination of the costume/sewing unit where students learn to create a design based on a director’s vision. The directors in this case included several Pre-K students who drew a picture of a monster for the tech students to create! The smiles on their faces when the Monster Plushies are handed to them with their drawing are priceless! We also love getting feedback like this from parents:
- "This was such an amazing collaboration! My little one is absolutely in love with her monster, and slept with her last night. I was so impressed with the quality, attention to detail, and how the artist captured the monsters personality. Thank you so much for such a wonderful opportunity."
- "This is such a treat!!!! My son was thrilled that the “high schoolers” (his new idols) made him something! Love the collaboration between the campuses."

High School CHEER
Celebrating our seniors in a big way today... The annual blackout senior pep rally was glowing with excitement! GHS Cheerleaders - you planned a great event! Thank you to the band for the sounds of celebration, the senior moms for working so hard to entertain us, all of the students (especially our seniors) who put in extra hours to make this such a great success. The crowd was loud and it was so much fun! Special thanks to Mrs. Kulbeth for bringing her announcing voice back to the Event Center for this special event!
Middle School CHEER
The GMS cheerleaders planned the annual pep rally for the final game of the season, and it was a huge success. The gym was "glowing" with excitement as we watched cheers, dances, stunts, played a few games... who knew it would be so hard to sweep a potato.
