Hello Calais Cougars,
We have had another full week here at Calais and we plan to continue learning right up until the last day of school on June 18th. In the last week, I’ve observed our 2nd graders immersed in measurement, 5/6 has been working hard on writing, and we sent 3/4 off today to address both science and global citizenship standards with a trip to the Ethan Allen Homestead.
In the next couple of weeks we will dive into spring assessments from our local comprehensive assessment plan. These assessments should show growth from winter as students approach meeting the end of year benchmarks. We will also use this data to inform decisions about intervention blocks for the first quarter of the year next fall.
The weather has been rainy, sunny, and buggy on any given day this week. Next week promises to be even warmer and students have not yet become acclimated to the temps and humidity. To make students more comfortable and ready for learning, please be sure you are sending them in each day with layers or a change of clothes. Applying sunscreen, and in some cases bug spray, will also help make them more comfortable. At school we will support students with reminders on drinking plenty of water, sitting quietly to cool down, and engaging in regular tick brushes when we return indoors from activities outside.
I hope you all enjoy your weekend,
Ms. Cat, CES principal

Dear Calais community members,
