The school year has begun and I'm so excited about the learning that is happening. See below to learn how you can get involved.

You're invited to participate in Smithville High School's College & Career Day on Friday, October 4. This event provides our high school students with valuable career exposure. We strive to provide them with the knowledge they need to better prepare for their future.

Here are the details:

• WHEN: Friday, October 4, 8am-11am
• WHERE: Smithville High School, 645 S Commercial, Smithville, MO
• WHAT:
• For Career Presenters:
• Give students an overview of a typical day in your job
• Share information about entry level positions in your industry
• Tell your story about your career path and college and/or training program
• For College Fair Participants:
• Give students an overview of choices for post-secondary training and education
• Share your programs and admissions information

Do you have a project that keeps getting moved to bottom of your priority list? Would you be willing to allow a student to problem-solve for you? Students in our Project Management class are eager to work with you!

Client projects connect students with industry partners to collaborate and solve an authentic problem. Students can:

• Perform market research
• Develop a survey and provide analysis
• Establish a plan for promoting an event and/or attracting guests
• Design marketing collateral
• Produce and/or edit a video

These are just a few examples of the many things students can do. Share your ideas with us - you might be surprised what our students are capable of.

This semester's students have expressed interest in the following areas: Healthcare, Engineering and Marketing.

Did you know that we have an internship program at Smithville High School? Along with our Cadet Teachers and Child Development Interns, I have been working to place students with industry professionals in their area of interest.

THANK YOU to those that said "yes"! These students are eager to learn about how they can apply their interests in real careers. This deep exploration is so important, and for some, it may be the difference between success and failure.
