We are trying something new this year - a cookie exchange for our Hobby Staff – and will need A LOT of bakers to make this a success. We have about 100 staff members to bake for, so we're putting out a call to all bakers. Each volunteer bakes and delivers their cookies to the Front Office by 10am of December 19th. We know this will be some work and want to THANK YOU ahead of time for your assistance!! Click here.

Counselor's Connection
We are continuing to meet with our Hawks to discuss postsecondary & career readiness. It's hard to believe how fast this year is going by, but before long it will be time to start looking at course selections for next school year. Our Hawks are working hard to identify their individual interests. In 6th grade students completed an interest survey using Choices 360, currently 7th graders are using the Texas Reality Check to match the lifestyle they hope to have as an adult to possible career options, and in 8th grade we will be using mapmygrad.com to have students match themselves to an HB 5 endorsement.
8th Grade Parents: Mark your calendars as the MAGNET APPLICATION opens on Monday, 11/18/24 and there are two magnet fairs in December. Additionally, we have an 8th grade parent meeting to discuss HS transition here at Hobby on Tuesday, 12/10/24 from 6-7pm and would love for you to join us so that we can provide you with information to assist your Hawk in making selections for HS. For additional information, we encourage you to sit with your child and check out the Counseling tile on your child’s Schoology and explore the folder titled “HS Credit, HS Planning and HS Magnet information.” This is a great place to find information about HS transition, endorsements, and upcoming opportunities to learn more about the High School Magnet programs offered here in NISD!
STAY CONNECTED:
Keep up to date with Hobby Counseling Department Happenings via our social media, "X" page @HobbyCounselors or have your student show you the counseling tile within schoology as there is wealth of information that will be posted here through the school year. From The Library
Notes From Nurse
Texas State Required Vision/HearingScreening will be performed on November 19, 2024. Vision referrals are being sent home with the student to give to parents. We have a partnership with UIW (University of Incarnate Word) Ophthalmology. They will perform FREE Eye Exams and prescribe FREE Glasses to the student if needed. Hobby has that appointment on November 19, 2024. Please return the referral packet as soon as possible to complete the appointment reservation.
- Seasons are changing and allergies are coming in strong, please assure your child is well cared for by taking their needed medications. Tissues to blow their nose and spit out anything that gets coughed up. Prevention is always best. If symptoms do not get better, it may be time to take your child to the doctor’s office/clinic to assure further care if needed. If any questions/concerns feel free to call 210-397-6254 or email the school nurse, Purificacion.Montes@nisd.net
An excused absences is still considered an absence from school, but does not count towards perfect attendance since the child was not physically present. An excused absence helps towards the Compulsory Attendance Law.

Athletic Information
IMPORTANT ATHLETIC INFORMATION
If your child is interested in trying out for a sport, or is enrolled in 7th or 8th grade athletics, there is mandatory paperwork that must be completed before they can be eligible to participate.
An athlete cannot try out for a sport before completing ALL UIL paperwork found on the parent portal. (link below)
STUDENTS NEW TO ATHLETICS:
All incoming students who did not have a medical physical last year MUST complete a medical physical and give a copy to the head coach on campus. The physical form can be printed from the parent portal. The medical history form must be completed online. Print the completed medical history and the physical form and take both of those papers with you to the doctor when you get your physical. Make a copy of the medical physical and turn it into the head coach. You do not need to turn in medical history, but must complete it online.

Technology For Students
Chromebook Responsibility
As we begin a new school year, we are excited to continue integrating technology into our classrooms with the use of Chromebooks. The Chromebooks are powerful tools that enhance learning, and they also come with responsibilities. Outlined below are the expectations for Chromebook use to ensure a safe and productive learning environment for all students at Hobby Middle School
Chromebook Expectations
1. Academic Use: Chromebooks are to be used primarily for educational purposes.
2. Daily Care and Maintenance: Students are required to bring their Chromebooks and chargers to school each day fully charged and ready to use. Devices should be stored safely in their backpacks when not in use. Students should avoid eating or drinking near their Chromebooks to prevent accidental damage. Decorations and stickers are not allowed to be added to the Chromebooks.
3. Digital Citizenship: We emphasize the importance of responsible online behavior. Students must adhere to the school’s acceptable use policy, which includes respecting privacy, avoiding inappropriate content, and practicing good digital etiquette.
4. Monitoring and Privacy: While the Chromebooks are provided for educational use, please be aware that the school’s IT department monitors all activity on these devices to ensure compliance with our usage policies. Our BARK alert system will alert us of misuse and the student may have their chromebook taken away.
Costs and Repairs
While the school provides Chromebooks, students and parents are responsible for maintaining the device in good working condition:
In case of theft, a replacement device may be issued only if a Police Report is filed and submitted with the campus Technology Support Specialist (TSS). Breakage and misuse of the device will result in payment from the parent or guardian:
Repair Costs:
Device replacement cost $272
Cracked Screen: $100
Missing keys: $25
Charger replacement $13
If a Chromebook is damaged or not working properly, students should report it immediately to their TSS, teacher, or the office as soon as possible.
