Welcome back! Spanish class at the elementary level is an introduction to the language. At 50 minutes per week, our goal is to expose students Spanish, get them interested in the study of language, and familiarize ourselves with various cultures from around the Spanish-speaking world. While your students may not exit our class as fluent speakers of the language, they should gain an interest, have a general understanding of the basics, and be ready to tackle Spanish at the Middle School level!

• Sr. is pronounced Say-nyore
• This simply means "Mr." so no need to call me Mr. Sr. Hall 😅

The 2024-2025 school year is my 16th year teaching in Royal Oak!

• I teach at both Oak Ridge and Keller Elementaries
• I have taught at Keller, Oak Ridge, Upton, and Oakland at various points in my career, though I have been exclusively at Keller and Oak Ridge since 2014

I am a 2008 graduate of Michigan State University (Go Green!)

• Student taught in a first grade classroom at Gompers Elementary in Detroit during the 2008-2009 school year
• I've been working with students since 2005!
• Undergraduate degrees in English and Spanish
• Master's Degree from Marygrove College in Educational Technology
• Studied abroad in Santander, Spain in 2007

I have a wife (Amy) and two kids (Ben, 5 and Lucy, 7) at home

I LOVE to run. I have run 5 full marathons and many half marathons over the years. Highlights include the 2022 and 2023 Boston Marathon, and the 2023 Chicago Marathon.

Our first unit in 5th grade reviews greetings and feelings (we use the same vocabulary to review as the above 4th grade video) as well as "All About Me." In this unit, we review many previous units and construct paragraphs to be able to introduce ourselves and relay personal information. We will eventually create Google Slide Presentations to demonstrate our understanding! See the link below to view my personal example!

I will use Quizlet from time to time in class as a means to introduce, practice, and review, but any extra practice time at home is a wonderful way to immerse students in the language!
